Job summary

CS Energy is seeking an experienced Manager Operations at Callide Power Station to provide strategic leadership across operations and performance. You will lead the Operations and Performance teams, oversee coal supply logistics, process chemistry and the Waste Containment Facility, and collaborate with external stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective generation.

Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

CS Energy is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Manager Operations to provide strategic leadership across operations and performance at Callide Power Station.

As a key member of the Callide Senior Leadership Team, you will be accountable for optimising site performance and ensuring the safe, reliable and cost-effective generation of electricity. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an operational leader who can bring together people, plant and performance to deliver strong production outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and operational discipline.

You will lead the Operations and Performance teams, with strategic oversight of coal supply logistics, process chemistry and the Waste Containment Facility (WCF). Working collaboratively across the site and with key external stakeholders, you will play a critical role in delivering Callide’s operational and strategic objectives.

Reporting to the General Manager, Callide structure, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Operations and Performance teams, driving generation targets through plant reliability, operational discipline and continuous improvement.
  • Champion operational excellence, identifying opportunities to maximise unit output, minimise availability losses, reduce downtime and improve asset utilisation.
  • Monitor and report on key operational and performance metrics, using data and insights to identify opportunities, implement corrective actions and drive sustainable improvements.
  • Work closely with the Joint Venture partner responsible for operating and maintaining Callide C Power Station, ensuring effective alignment, collaboration and transparent communication.
  • Build strong relationships with external shareholders and stakeholders to support shared operational and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain operational accountability for coal supply, ensuring secure and reliable fuel delivery to meet generation requirements.
  • Manage relationships with coal supply vendors and key stakeholders, proactively addressing logistics and supply issues and contributing to long‑term fuel security and planning.
  • Provide strategic and governance oversight of the Waste Containment Facility (WCF), ensuring compliance with relevant plans, manuals, emergency arrangements, corrective actions, ANCOLD guidelines and CS Energy governance requirements.
  • Provide strategic oversight and support to the site-based Chemistry Team, ensuring process chemistry activities support safe, reliable and compliant plant operation.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of site business plans, operational strategies and long‑term objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Callide Senior Leadership Team to drive integrated decision‑making, effective resource allocation and whole‑of‑site performance.
  • Foster a high‑performance culture built on safety, accountability, collaboration, operational discipline and continuous improvement.
  • Lead, coach and develop teams to build capability, engagement and a strong pipeline of future operational leaders.

This is s permanent, full time position at Callide Power Station.

ABOUT YOU

You are an experienced operational leader who can balance people, production, safety, reliability and commercial outcomes in a complex industrial environment.

You will bring:

  • Significant leadership experience in production, mining, power generation, heavy industry or a similar complex operating environment, with a minimum of 10 years' relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and delivering strong HSE, cost, production and operational performance outcomes.
  • Experience in a senior operational or production leadership role, with the ability to influence across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of complex infrastructure, industrial processes and process systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to use performance data and business systems to identify trends, drive improvement and support effective decision‑making.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal teams, joint venture partners, contractors, suppliers and external stakeholders.
  • A leadership style that promotes accountability, collaboration, constructive challenge and continuous improvement.
  • Experience using SAP or similar business systems and tools to support operational reporting and performance management.

The following would be highly regarded:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience within power station operations and thermal generation processes.
  • Experience with coal supply, fuel logistics or coal‑fired generation.
  • Experience with ash management, tailings dams, waste containment facilities or similar regulated infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory, governance and risk management requirements within a heavy industrial environment.
