Job summary

Macmahon is seeking an experienced underground driller to operate Sandvik longhole rigs at Mount Carlton Underground Mine, Queensland. You will join a crew that prides itself on safety, teamwork and meeting production targets.

You will operate DL422i and DL432i, perform pre-start checks, participate in routine maintenance and maintain accurate records while collaborating with the team to optimise efficiency. High safety standards apply.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in underground drilling with focus on up-hole drilling.
• Solid understanding of longhole stoping and production drilling principles.
• Ability to read mine plans, drill designs, layouts and stope instructions.
• Knowledge of ground support practices and safe stope entry procedures.
• High Safety standards and regulations awareness.

Responsibilities

• Operate Sandvik DL422i and DL432i longhole drill rigs safely and efficiently.
• Use automation and rig control systems, incl. iSeries controls on the DL432i.
• Perform pre-start checks, routine inspections and basic equipment maintenance.
• Maintain accurate drilling records and production data.
• Collaborate with the underground crew to optimise drilling performance and productivity.
• Support a people-first culture and contribute to a strong crew ethos.

Role Details

• Location: Mount Carlton Underground Mine, Queensland
• DIDO from Townsville, QLD
• Fights: For approved candidates from Brisbane, QLD, Sydney, NSW
• Roster: 14/14 (days and nights)
• Sandvik fleet on site – DL432i, DL422i

Responsibilities

• Utilise advance automation and rig control systems, including iSeries controls on the DL432i
• Conduct pre-start checks, routine inspections and basic maintenance of drilling equipmentMaintain accurate drilling records and production data
• Collaborate with the underground team to optimise drilling performance and productivity

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum 2 years experience in underground drilling with a strong focus on up-hole drilling
• Solid understanding of longhole stoping methods and production drilling principles
• Proven ability to read and interpret mine plans, drill designs, layout and stope instructions
• Sound knowledge of ground support practices and safe stope entry procedures
• Strong awareness and application of underground mining safety standards and regulations
• High Risk Work Licence – EWP, Forklift, Dogging (desirable)
• Cert III in Underground Metalliferous Mining (desirable)
