Job summary

Weathertex is seeking a reliable Logyard Operator to join our manufacturing team in the Hunter Region. The role involves safe operation of excavators, front-end loaders and forklifts in a hands-on environment.

You will carry out pre-start checks, monitor equipment, and perform basic maintenance while working closely with a team focused on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators in a logyard or timber environment.
• Experience operating front-end loaders in a manufacturing setting.
• Current Forklift Licence (LF) with hands-on operating experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, front-end loaders and forklifts to move logs and materials.
• Operate fixed plant and equipment within the logyard.
• Perform pre-start inspections and routine checks on equipment.
• Monitor plant operation and report faults or maintenance needs.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area and follow procedures.
• Collaborate with the team to support production requirements.

Experienced with heavy machinery and looking for a secure full-time role with no weekend work?

Weathertex is seeking a reliable and experienced Logyard Operator to join our manufacturing team in the Hunter Region.

This is a full-time permanent position suited to an experienced plant operator who is confident operating excavators, front-end loaders and forklifts and enjoys working in a hands‑on team environment.

About the Role

As a Logyard Operator, you will play an important role in supporting Weathertex's manufacturing operations by safely operating mobile and fixed plant within our logyard.

This is a hands‑on role requiring experience with heavy mobile plant, good situational awareness and a strong commitment to safe work practices.

• Operating excavators, front-end loaders and forklifts
• Operating fixed plant and equipment
• Safely moving, loading and handling logs and materials within the logyard
• Carrying out pre‑start inspections and routine equipment checks
• Monitoring plant and equipment during operation
• Undertaking basic plant maintenance where required
• Identifying and reporting plant faults, hazards and maintenance requirements
• General housekeeping and maintaining a clean and organised work area
• Following safe work procedures and operating instructions
• Working collaboratively with the team to support production requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

• Demonstrated experience operating excavators
• Demonstrated experience operating front‑end loaders
• A current Forklift Licence (LF) with demonstrated operating experience
• Experience working safely around mobile plant and machinery
• The ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• The ability to follow procedures and work instructions
• Good communication and attention to detail
• Reliability, punctuality and a positive work ethic

Highly Desirable

We would also like to hear from candidates who have:

• Experience operating fixed plant and equipment
• Experience carrying out basic plant maintenance
• The ability to identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical or plant issues
• Previous experience working in a logyard, timber, manufacturing, industrial or similar environment

You take pride in looking after the equipment you operate, understand the importance of completing pre-start checks and are confident identifying when something doesn't look or sound right.
