Job summary

Western Power is inviting applicants for a Lineworker Apprenticeship in Western Australia. This paid, full-time program runs for four years, with on-the-job learning and formal training to obtain the Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Overhead.

You will train alongside qualified tradespeople and gradually take on hands-on responsibilities. The role requires a driver’s license (C class), physical fitness, and the ability to travel to different locations for rotations and training, with

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Have a C class driver’s license.
• Have completed minimum Year 10 with English and Maths.
• Be physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment.
• Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
• Be willing to obtain high-risk licenses.
• Be willing to work a 75-hour fortnight, including overtime when required.
• Be willing to travel to remote locations for rotations and training.

Responsibilities

• Support the Lineworker team while working towards a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Overhead (UET30621).
• Learn installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and hardware under supervision.
• Demonstrate safety and quality practices on-site during all tasks.

We're currently seeking Lineworker Apprentices for Balcatta and South Metro Depot (SMD).

What Does a Lineworker Apprentice Do?

As a Lineworker Apprentice, you will work towards obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Overhead (UET30621).

Alongside experienced tradespeople while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified tradesperson:

• Gain knowledge in areas such as installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and associated hardware
• Nominal term for this qualification is 48 months

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

• Must be 18 years or older to apply for these positions
• Have obtained a "C" class drivers license
• Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)
• Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment
• Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
• Be willing to/have obtained a range of high-risk licensing
• Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75-hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)
• Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including traveling to attend TAFE and external training courses
• The ability to interpret complex instructions, designs and diagrams
• The ability to operate large equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills

Location Flexibility and Future Employment

Apprentices may be required to undertake training or rotations across different Western Power locations. Final placement locations cannot be guaranteed and will depend on business requirements and workforce demand at the time.
