Job summary

The Sydney Opera House is seeking a casual Lighting Technician to join our lighting team. The role focuses on delivering high-quality lighting support for performances, ensuring technical systems are maintained and WHS standards are upheld.

Ideal candidates will have experience in live theatre lighting, strong communication skills, and the ability to work on rotating shifts. The role offers opportunities to contribute to the iconic venue and its diverse program.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year in live theatre lighting environments.
  • Solid technical understanding of lighting in theatre operations.
  • Knowledge of focussing, patching and lighting effects.

Responsibilities

Salary: Base wage of $33.11 per hour plus 23.3% Casual Loading, 14% Scale Penalty and 12% Superannuation Contributions

YOUR NEW ROLE

This role works as part of a team to deliver the highest technical services in the field of lighting. The role is customer focused and supports performers to achieve excellence in their field, drawing on high level technical skills, operational experience and comprehensive understanding of lighting equipment and systems. Although not directly responsible for operation of equipment, this role is pivotal in the support of operators by ensuring the technical systems are maintained and documented and WHS standards are upheld.

ARE YOU THE ONE?

Key Responsibilities/skills:



  • Knowledge and experience (at least 1 year) of working conditions of a live theatre environment or a related industry.

  • Demonstrated general technical understanding, skills and experience in lighting and of the requirements of live theatre and the performing arts industry.

  • Basic theory and understanding of lighting concepts such as focussing and patching and lighting effects are desirable for the position.

  • Physical fitness, agility and ability to work at heights.

  • Ability and commitment to work on a rotating shift basis.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within teams and across multiple disciplines to ensure completion of work.

  • Good communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills.
