Job summary

Hawkesbury City Council in Sydney’s metro area is seeking enthusiastic casual Learn to Swim Instructors for the Richmond swimming centre during the 2026/2027 pool season. Hours will vary based on experience and availability.

Applicants should be capable of engaging children, possess current Swim Australia/Austswim/Royal Life Saving Teacher’s Accreditation and CPR or Lifeguard credentials, and have WWCC clearance. This role offers flexible hours and opportunities for development.

Qualifications

• Ability to teach swimming and hold children's attention.
• Experience working with children is desirable.
• Must have current teacher accreditation in swimming.
• Must hold CPR or Lifeguard certification.
• Must be at least 17 years old as of 1 October 2026.
• Right to work in Australia and WWCC clearance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Learn to Swim lessons at Richmond swimming centre.
• Adapt teaching methods to suit different ages and abilities.
• Ensure safety and supervise pool activities.
• Attend training and development sessions as required.

• Seasonal Casual Positions $39.47 per hour and additional penalty rates on Saturdays
• Summer Pool Season commences September
• Learn to Swim Schools’ Program commencing in October for 6 – 8 weeks

The Role

We are seeking expressions of interest from enthusiastic, confident and energetic individuals to undertake duties as casual Learn to Swim Instructors for our swimming centre at Richmond during the 2026/2027 pool season. Hours will vary depending on experience and availability.

Essential Criteria

• Demonstrates assertive and confident demeanour, with the ability to hold children’s attention and effectively teach a class of children
• Experience working or engaging with Children
• Current Swim Australia, Austswim or Royal Life Saving Teacher’s Accreditation
• Current CPR or Pool Lifeguard Statement of Attainment Accreditation
• Minimum 17+ years old as of 1st October 2026
• The right to live and work in Australia
• Working with Children Check (WWCC) for applicants 18 and above
• Successful applicants, 18 and above, will be required to undergo background (police) checks and medical declaration

Desirable Criteria

• Bronze Coaching Accreditation & Current A.S.C.T.A membership
• First Aid Certificate
• Previous experience as pool lifeguard / learn to swim instructor
• Duke of Edinburgh – Participation in the award scheme and/ or completion of Bronze Award highly regarded
