Job summary

Cumberland City Council is seeking a Learn to Swim Instructor to deliver high-quality classes at our aquatic centres across the Cumberland LGA. The role is casual, with shifts at various swim centres and occasional travel between sites.

Responsibilities include teaching in line with Council policies and AUSTSWIM standards, maintaining safety and encouraging community participation. Candidates must have CPR and WWCC and be able to work well in a team.

Qualifications

  • CPR and WWCC are required.
  • Experience delivering swimming classes.
  • Ability to work in a team and manage time effectively.
  • Experience handling customer enquiries and complaints.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality Learn to Swim classes in line with policy and standards.
  • Work across Cumberland City Council Swim Centres as needed.
  • Support program objectives and customer service.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Council’s Aquatic and Leisure department sits within the Assets, Capital and Facilities business unit that forms part of the City Services directorate that focuses on and is responsible for the beautification of the Cumberland LGA. Cumberland City Council owns and operates five (5) Aquatic and Leisure Centres across the LGA which provide aquatic, leisure and wellness programs and services to our community.

In contributing to the overarching vision, the Learn to Swim Instructor delivers high quality classes to the community of Cumberland City Council in line with Council’s policies and procedures and AUSTSWIM industry standards.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Current HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the effective instruction of swimming classes
  • Strong time management and organisational ability
  • Experience dealing with customer enquiries and complaints

About this role:

  • Casual positions
  • Located at Council's Swim Centres, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 3 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $31.59 to $38.70 per hour(plus casual loading), plus 12% superannuation
  • Weekend penalty ratesapply in accordance with the Local Government Award
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
