Job description

Leading Hand - Hydraulic Cylinder Repairs

Experienced in hydraulic cylinder repairs, or a mechanical fitter ready to take the next step into workshop leadership?

Berendsen Fluid Power is seeking a hands‑on Leading Hand to support the day‑to‑day operations of our Dandenong South workshop, with a particular focus on hydraulic cylinder repairs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced workshop leader with a background in hydraulics, or a skilled mechanical fitter looking to develop their leadership experience within an established fluid power business.

We’re open to candidates from different technical backgrounds. Whether you’re already leading a hydraulic repair workshop, an experienced hydraulic cylinder fitter ready for more responsibility, or a mechanical Leading Hand keen to develop your knowledge of hydraulic cylinders, we’d like to hear from you.

About the Role

Working closely with workshop management, you’ll help coordinate the daily operations of our hydraulic cylinder repair workshop, ensuring jobs are allocated appropriately, completed efficiently and delivered to a high standard.

You’ll be responsible for providing day‑to‑day direction to a team of mechanical fitters and machinists, while remaining actively involved in hands‑on workshop activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the daily workflow of hydraulic cylinder repairs, including job allocation, scheduling and prioritisation.
  • Providing direction and technical support to mechanical fitters and machining personnel.
  • Overseeing the inspection, dismantling, repair, assembly and testing of hydraulic cylinders.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of work scopes, repair instructions and technical specifications.
  • Monitoring job progress to ensure repairs are completed within agreed timeframes.
  • Supporting fault‑finding, troubleshooting and the resolution of technical issues.
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, quality control and workplace safety.
  • Working closely with workshop management to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and productivity.
  • Remaining hands‑on and assisting with mechanical repairs and workshop activities as required.

About You

We’re looking for a practical, technically capable individual who enjoys working with others and takes pride in delivering quality repairs.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • A mechanical fitting trade qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in hydraulic cylinder repairs, hydraulic systems, mechanical fitting or industrial equipment maintenance.
  • Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Workshop Supervisor or in a role involving the coordination of workshop activities.
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and repair instructions.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing workshop priorities.
  • A hands‑on approach to leadership, with a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Hydraulic cylinder repair experience will be highly regarded, but isn’t essential for the right candidate.

We’re equally interested in hearing from experienced hydraulic cylinder fitters looking to step into their first leadership position, as well as established mechanical workshop leaders willing to develop their hydraulic expertise.

Berendsen Fluid Power is an established Australian hydraulic services business, specialising in the repair, maintenance and servicing of hydraulic equipment and components.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Take on a key role in the daily operations of an established hydraulic repair workshop.
  • Develop your technical and leadership capabilities.
  • Work alongside experienced mechanical and hydraulic specialists.
  • Build your career within a national group of specialist engineering businesses.
