Job summary

Berendsen Fluid Power Australia is seeking an experienced hands-on Leading Hand to support the daily operations of our Dandenong South workshop, with a focus on hydraulic cylinder repairs. A background in hydraulics or a mechanical fitter looking to advance into leadership will fit well.

You will coordinate daily workflows, supervise a team of mechanical fitters and machinists, and stay actively involved in hands-on workshop activities while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Mechanical fitting trade qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience in hydraulic cylinder repairs, hydraulic systems, mechanical fitting or industrial equipment maintenance.
• Previous leading hand, workshop supervision or coordinating workshop activities experience.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and repair instructions.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing workshop priorities.
• Hands-on leadership approach with safety and quality focus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating the daily workflow of hydraulic cylinder repairs, including job allocation, scheduling and prioritisation.
• Providing direction and technical support to mechanical fitters and machining personnel.
• Overseeing the inspection, dismantling, repair, assembly and testing of hydraulic cylinders.
• Assisting with the preparation and review of work scopes, repair instructions and technical specifications.
• Monitoring job progress to ensure repairs are completed within agreed timeframes.
• Supporting fault‑finding, troubleshooting and the resolution of technical issues.
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship, quality control and workplace safety.
• Working closely with workshop management to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and productivity.
• Remaining hands-on and assisting with mechanical repairs and workshop activities as required.
