Job summary

K2 Homes is seeking a hands-on Onsite Leading Hand (carpenter/foreman) to manage luxury custom home builds in Melbourne. You will stay on the tools daily, lead the crew, own the program on site and act as the bridge between site and office.

Ideal candidates have 15+ years in residential construction, a Certificate III in Carpentry, White Card and a valid driver’s licence. Own vehicle and tools preferred. This is a full-time role with long-term growth potential and a focus on quality and safety.

K2 Homes builds luxury custom homes across the Bayside area. We’re a small, client-focused team that prides itself on accurate quoting, quality workmanship and a building experience our clients actually enjoy.

We’re growing, and we’re looking for a high-performing, A-grade carpenter to lead our sites. This is a hands‑on role, on the tools, but it’s more than just another carpentry job. It’s a key role in a business that is building clear systems, KPIs and a team that holds itself to a high standard.

The Role

We’re hiring a full‑time Onsite Leading Hand (carpenter/foreman) to run our custom home builds on the ground. This is a working leading hand role, not an office or supervisory‑only position. You’ll be on the tools alongside the crew every day while leading them, owning the quality and the program on site, and acting as the link between the site and the office.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and run weekly toolbox meetings with apprentices, setting clear targets and priorities for the week ahead
• Record and maintain all toolbox meeting minutes in HazardCo
• Complete and record site reviews in HazardCo
• Complete and record risk assessments in HazardCo
• Order materials to site in advance to ensure on‑time delivery and minimise delays
• Schedule and coordinate upcoming trades so they are on site when required and in the correct sequence
• Oversee the construction program, monitoring progress to make sure milestones and deadlines are met
• Plan site works ahead of time, anticipating upcoming requirements to minimise delays and downtime
• Lead, motivate and manage the on‑site team, getting the best out of each team member
• Complete site tasks and instructions efficiently, cost‑effectively and to a high standard
• Maintain a thorough working knowledge of building systems, construction processes and regulatory requirements
• Read and interpret architectural plans and construction detail drawings
• Accurately measure and quantify materials, ensuring correct quantities arrive on site with minimal waste
• Identify, document and report potential variations to the office promptly
• Keep the Quality Control Checklist up to date at every stage of the build
• Train and mentor apprentices in line with K2 Homes' values, standards and expectations
• Lead and enforce health and safety on site, ensuring all employees, subcontractors and visitors follow safe work practices
• Work safely and responsibly at all times and wear and use the correct PPE at all times
• Use initiative to identify and resolve problems without needing direction
• Communicate clearly and effectively with the team, subcontractors, clients and the office to achieve the right outcome

The Right Candidate Will Have

• Qualified carpenter (Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent)
• At least 15 years’ experience in residential construction, including time running a crew
• Experience on custom or high‑end new builds and renovations (highly regarded)
• Relevant qualifications (construction induction [White Card] and a current driver’s licence
• Your own reliable vehicle and tools
