Job summary

Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation QLD is seeking an OO5 Ranger to assist the Ranger in Charge, planning and delivering the day-to-day work program across the Pioneer Work Unit, mainly at Cape Hillsborough and Cape Palmerston National Park.

You will lead a small team, ensure safety, supervise staff, manage fire, pest, natural resources, visitor and asset programs, and undertake plant and infrastructure maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience and ability to lead a small team.
  • Experience planning and delivering annual work programs in protected areas.
  • Administrative skills for reports, records and computer systems.
  • HR and budget management experience.
  • Strong communications to respond to queries and carry out patrols.
  • Confidence in compliance and enforcement activities.
  • Ability to establish relationships with park neighbours and stakeholders.
  • Experience operating and maintaining plant and equipment.
  • Willingness to support First Nations interests.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Ranger in Charge to plan and deliver the day-to-day work program.
  • Lead a small team and ensure safety and wellbeing of staff.
  • Deliver annual fire, pest, natural resources, visitor and asset management programs.
  • Undertake plant and infrastructure maintenance tasks in protected areas.
  • Work collaboratively with Rangers, First Nations partners, volunteers and contractors.
  • Live, travel, and camp overnight in remote locations in varying climates.
