Job summary

Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation is seeking a permanent OO5 Ranger for Pioneer Base Slade Point, Mackay. The role involves diverse field and office work, supervising a small team, developing the annual works program, and coordinating fire, pest management, infrastructure maintenance and visitor management.

You will live and travel to remote locations, work with First Nations partners, and ensure safety and wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience in field operations.
  • Ability to plan and deliver annual work programs in protected areas.
  • Administrative skills for reports, records and systems.
  • Experience managing human resources and budget processes.
  • Highly developed communications to respond to queries and provide advice.
  • Confidence in compliance and enforcement activities.
  • Ability to establish relationships with stakeholders including neighbours.
  • Experience operating or maintaining plant and equipment.
  • Willingness to support First Nations interests.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide a small ranger team and deliver day-to-day work.
  • Deliver annual fire, pest, natural resources, visitor and asset programs.
  • Maintain plant and infrastructure in protected areas.
  • Live, work and camp overnight in remote locations as required.
