Job summary

Ausnet Services Ltd is seeking a Lead Secondary Engineer to influence project outcomes through delegated technical authority, robust stakeholder engagement and high-quality engineering advice. This role supports engineering quality, assurance, capability development and continuous improvement.

Based at Freshwater Place, Melbourne, you will lead, coach and mentor engineers, coordinate secondary design packages and drive safe, design-reviewed solutions across the contestable infrastructure

Qualifications

• 8+ years experience designing secondary systems for high-voltage transmission substations.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognised by The Washington Accord.
• Registered Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) or eligible to obtain from BLA-Victoria.
• Experience producing, reviewing and checking detailed secondary system design outputs.
• Strong end-to-end experience delivering substation projects from concept to detailed design.
• Extensive knowledge in electricity transmission, terminal station and substation engineering, esp. secondary design, construction, operation, maintenance and asset management.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles, governance, safety-in-design and technical assurance.
• Ability to lead technical reviews and mentor Engineers and Senior Engineers.
• Experience interfacing engineering disciplines and impact on design, constructability and operability.
• Commitment to technical leadership and continuous improvement.
• IEC61850 knowledge would be beneficial

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery and coordination of secondary design packages, ensuring quality, schedule and budget.
• Provide advanced technical, commercial, asset management and design advice within secondary engineering.
• Shape technical direction across projects by applying engineering judgement and endorsing decisions.
• Lead technical reviews, design reviews, safety-in-design activities and workshops.
• Resolve complex technical issues with attention to constructability and asset management considerations.
• Promote consistency of engineering practices and design approaches across projects.
• Lead, coach and mentor Engineers and Senior Engineers for capability development.
