Job summary

AirTrunk in Sydney, Australia, seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical engineering discipline from its North Sydney HQ. You will guide a team of SMEs across design, delivery and commissioning, owning standards, OSE specs and risk-based reviews throughout the project lifecycle.

You will ensure safety, resilience and lifecycle value while driving global consistency and cost efficiency. Strong leadership and senior stakeholder communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including leadership of senior engineers or SMEs across multi-project portfolios.
• Chartered or Professional Engineer status is preferred.
• Deep expertise in mission-critical electrical systems including HV/LV distribution, generation, UPS and earthing.
• Experience in data centres or high-availability facilities.
• Experience owning engineering standards or equipment specifications and applying assurance and deviation governance.
• Ability to plan and deploy specialist resources across competing projects with quality and global consistency.
• Commercial awareness with experience evaluating lifecycle cost and technical trade-offs.
• Decisive, accountable leadership with ability to communicate to diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel occasionally across AirTrunk’s regions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and empower a high-performing team of electrical engineering SMEs with clear objectives.
• Maintain forward resource plans and assign skilled SMEs to projects, resolving capacity conflicts.
• Set electrical direction across LV distribution, standby generation, UPS, earthing, protection and controls.
• Establish risk-based reviews across design stages and ensure actions are closed.
• Review designs for alignment with standards, requirements and customer commitments.
• Act as senior escalation point and document decisions with rationale and risks.
• Approve, reject or elevate departures and inconsistencies per authority framework.
• Own and approve standards and OSE specifications with change control and adoption evidence.
• Monitor cost drivers and sponsor value engineering without compromising outcomes.
• Assess suitability of designs/equipment for safety, reliability and lifecycle value.
• Collaborate with Procurement to evaluate vendor proposals and risk.
• Lead discipline peer reviews and align with other teams (Mechanical, Controls, Civil, etc.).
• Champion Safety in Design and communicate hazards and risk controls.
• Provide technical support for site/commissioning issues and capture lessons learned.
