Job summary

AirTrunk is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical engineering discipline from our North Sydney HQ. You will guide a team of SMEs, set technical direction across LV distribution, UPS, BESS, earthing and protections, and own engineering standards globally.

Travel to support reviews and deployments may be required. The role demands 12+ years in electrical engineering, data centre experience, and Chartered/PE status where possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Typically 12+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience with leadership.
• Chartered or Professional Engineer status is preferred.
• Deep expertise in mission‑critical electrical systems including HV/LV distribution, UPS, earthing, protection and grading.
• Strong data centre or high‑availability infrastructure experience.
• Experience owning engineering standards, specs and governance.
• Ability to plan and deploy specialist resources across competing projects.
• Commercial awareness for cost, value engineering and lifecycle considerations.
• Decisive, accountable leadership capable of clear communication to diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel occasionally across AirTrunk's regions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical SME team through clear objectives, coaching and succession planning.
• Set electrical technical direction across LV distribution, standby generation, UPS and related systems.
• Review designs to ensure alignment with AirTrunk standards and project requirements.
• Provide senior technical support for site, commissioning and operational issues; capture lessons learned.
• Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain on vendor proposals and cost trade-offs.
