Are you a senior Electrical Lead or Principal Electrical Project Engineer with a strong background in heavy industry, mining, or utility-scale infrastructure? Are you seeking single-point discipline ownership on a flagship brownfield capital program?
We are partnering with an industry-leading national building materials and quarrying group as they deliver a $100M critical infrastructure upgrade at a major regional mining operation in the Southern Highlands region. Replacing a 100-year-old primary crusher with a state-of-the-art impact crusher, stacker reclaimer, rail realignment, and high-voltage power supply realignment, this project is a non-discretionary, long-term capital investment.
As the Project Lead (Electrical) Engineer, you will serve as the single discipline authority for all Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control (EI&C) scope across the capital delivery program. Managing a dedicated internal team (Electrical Site Co-ordinator and Electrical Draftsperson) alongside specialist contractors, you will oversee design assurance, HV power realignment, switchrooms, PLC/SCADA integration, and site energisation within an active operating mine environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Discipline Single Point of Accountability: Own the electrical basis of design, ensuring technical integrity, constructability, and compliance across all EI&C packages against relevant Australian Standards.
- High Voltage & Power Supply Realignment: Lead the delivery of high-voltage (HV) reticulation, regional power supply realignment, substations, transformers, switchrooms, and Motor Control Centres (MCCs).
- NSP & Grid Interfaces: Manage technical interfaces with Network Service Providers (NSPs), network connection approvals, protection settings, and outage tie-in sequencing to ensure zero disruption to live operations.
- Control Systems & Automation Integration: Oversee the PLC, SCADA, and field instrumentation architecture, ensuring seamless integration with existing plant control networks and safety instrumented functions.
- Vendor & Contract Management: Prepare technical RFQs, evaluate major equipment tenders (VSDs, switchgear, transformers), manage vendor Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and direct site installation contractors.
- Brownfield Site Execution & Energisation: Supervise site installation, verify cable routing and earthing, lead pre-commissioning, and drive safe energisation, testing, and operational handover.
- Electrical Safety & Risk Leadership: Maintain strict compliance with NSW Mining health and safety regulations, electrical isolation protocols, arc flash controls, and high-voltage access authorisations.
We recognise that high-level industrial electrical engineering skills are highly transferable. We welcome applications from senior electrical engineers with a background in Mining & Metals, Heavy Manufacturing, Steel, Oil & Gas, Mineral Processing, Bulk Materials Handling, Power Generation, or Utilities/NSPs.
- Education & Credentials: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Chartered Engineer (CPEng) status or eligibility, and High Voltage (HV) Switching/Access Authorisation capability are highly regarded.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years' post-graduate experience delivering complex industrial power and capital engineering projects, including experience as a discipline lead.
- HV & Power Infrastructure: Proven track record in high-voltage distribution, substations, switchgear, protection coordination, earthing design, and transformer specification.
- Automation & Drives: Practical understanding of industrial PLC/SCADA architectures, Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), instrumentation, and motor control.
- Brownfield Delivery: Demonstrated site experience managing contractors, outage tie-ins, and energisation sequences in live, continuous operating environments.
- Leadership & Governance: Ability to lead technical teams, manage vendor contracts, review consultant designs, and operate within formal stage-gate capital governance frameworks
