Job summary

Melbourne Water is expanding its Asset Knowledge & Technology team and seeks a Principal Engineer Control Systems to lead engineering standards, architecture and governance for OT systems. You will act as technical authority for control systems across SCADA, PLC/RTU, telemetry and related platforms, ensuring safety, reliability and regulatory alignment.

The role requires senior technical leadership, extensive control systems experience in critical infrastructure, and the ability to obtain

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, Control Systems Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive industrial control systems engineering experience in critical infrastructure or similar environments.
• Registered Professional Engineer Victoria (RPEV) is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain AusCheck clearance.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority for control systems engineering across SCADA, PLC/RTU, telemetry and OT platforms.
• Set and govern engineering standards, reference architectures, specifications and configurations.
• Provide technical judgement on complex, high-risk design and non-conformances.
• Define requirements across design, configuration, integration, testing and change management.
• Apply safety and risk processes including CHAZOP, HAZOP, functional safety and safety-in-design.
• Establish lifecycle and maintenance plans for reliability, obsolescence and recovery.
• Provide assurance for major modifications, renewals and integrations with proper evidence.
• Lead investigations into incidents and non-conformances and drive corrective actions.
• Oversee vendor, contractor and third-party activities in the OT environment.
• Lead the control systems engineering community of practice and mentor engineers.
