Job summary

Charter Diligence is seeking a practical Laboratory Operations Support Officer to assist with relocating lab services from West Ryde to North Ryde. The role is entry–level, focusing on relocation, logistics and facilities tasks within a busy transition project.

Hours are 38 per week, on-site, with a contract through 31 January 2027. Start ASAP, with a rate of $45–$50 per hour plus super and mandatory pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

About The Role

We are seeking practical and reliable Laboratory Operations Support Officers to assist with the relocation of laboratory services from West Ryde to North Ryde.

This is an entry-level operational support opportunity suited to candidates who are comfortable working in a hands-on environment, following clear instructions and supporting a team through a major workplace transition.

The role will initially focus on an approximately eight-week transition period, assisting with workspace preparation, unpacking and organising supplies, contractor coordination, issue logging and general relocation activities.

Following the move, the role will continue into a hypercare period, providing practical support to laboratory staff as they settle into the new environment.

Importantly, this is not a water testing or laboratory analyst position. The role is focused on laboratory relocation, operational support, logistics and facilities-related activities.

Role: Laboratory Operations Support Officer/Lab Transition Support Staff

Location: West Ryde / North Ryde

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: Contract to 31 January 2027

Arrangement: On-site

Hours: 38 hours per week, 7.6 hours per day

Rate: $45 to $50 per hour + super

Pre-employment checks: Two reference checks and police check

Driver's licence: Mandatory, with company vehicle provided for travel between sites

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the transition team with day-to-day laboratory relocation activities.
• Follow instructions from the Operations Manager and Transition Team accurately and promptly.
• Assist with preparing and setting up laboratory workspaces.
• Unpack, organise and distribute supplies and equipment as directed.
• Support the organisation and preparation of laboratory areas before and after the relocation.
• Assist with moving, shifting and positioning suitable items under appropriate direction and safety procedures.
• Coordinate and greet contractors arriving on site.
• Assist with contractor access and ensure relevant site safety requirements are followed.
• Log, record and expediate issues identified during the transition.
• Act as a practical support person or runner for ad hoc tasks across the site.
• Assist laboratory staff during the post-relocation hypercare period.
• Respond professionally to staff queries and provide practical assistance during the transition.
• Support staff who may require additional assistance adapting to the new laboratory environment.
• Use basic computer systems to record activities, track issues and maintain relevant information.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Follow workplace health and safety, manual handling and environmental procedures at all times.
• Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions or potential operational issues.
• Assist with stock, supplies, boxes and general warehouse-style activities associated with the relocation.
• Support the transition team with other reasonable operational and administrative tasks as required.
• Maintain clear communication with the transition team, laboratory employees, contractors and other stakeholders.
• Utilise a Forklift or Order Picker if appropriately licenced and where required.

About You

This opportunity will suit someone who is dependable, physically capable and comfortable taking direction in a busy operational environment. You do not need to be a water analyst or laboratory scientist. The key requirements are reliability, communication, safety awareness and the ability to carry out practical tasks accurately.

You Will Ideally Bring

• Previous experience in an operational, warehouse, logistics, facilities, laboratory support, office relocation or similar environment.
• Approximately 2-3 years' relevant experience is preferred, although candidates with suitable transferable experience will be considered.
• A current and valid Australian driver's licence is mandatory.
• Ability to travel between West Ryde and North Ryde using a company vehicle when required.
• Strong workplace health and safety awareness.
• Good understanding of safe manual handling practices.
• Ability to work comfortably in an environment involving regular walking, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying.
• Ability to perform physically active duties throughout the working day.
• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confidence communicating with contractors, laboratory staff and operational team members.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately and complete tasks as directed.
• Comfortable working as part of a structured transition team rather than requiring significant independent decision-making.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to use systems for administration, tracking and issue logging.
• Strong attention to detail when organising equipment, supplies and work areas.
• A proactive and reliable approach to completing assigned tasks.
• Good situational awareness, particularly around workplace hazards, equipment and site activities.
• Ability to remain professional and approachable when supporting employees through a significant workplace change.
• A White Card will be advantageous.
• Forklift and Order Picker (LF & LO) Licence is advantageous but not essential.
• Previous laboratory, warehouse, logistics, facilities or relocation experience will be highly regarded.
• Ability to successfully complete two reference checks and a police check.
• Ability to work on-site five days per week.
• Availability to commence ASAP, ideally in August.
