Job summary

Bankstown Sports is looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join their Events & Functions culinary team in Sydney. In this hands-on leadership role, you will support daily kitchen operations, lead service periods, and ensure exceptional food experiences across a range of events.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie.
• Strong leadership and team development skills.
• Sound understanding of food safety regulations and HACCP principles.

Job Description

Reporting to the Head Chef, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality food experiences across a wide range of functions and events. You will support daily kitchen operations, lead service periods, develop team members and ensure every event is executed to the highest standard.,

• Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day operation of the Events & Functions kitchen
• Lead and motivate kitchen teams during event and banquet service
• Ensure food quality, presentation and consistency standards are maintained at all times
• Execute buffet, plated, cocktail and large-scale function service
• Train, mentor and develop junior chefs and apprentices
• Assist with rostering, stock control, ordering and inventory management
• Monitor food and labour costs while minimising waste
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and HACCP compliance standards
• Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing kitchen culture
• Support menu execution and event preparation across multiple functions
• Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and operating efficiently,
• Work within one of Sydney's leading hospitality and events destinations
• Exposure to weddings, gala dinners, conferences and large-scale events

You enjoy leading teams, managing large services and delivering exceptional food experiences for guests.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie within events, banquets, catering, hotels or high-volume hospitality venues
• Relevant Commercial Cookery qualifications
• Strong leadership and team development skills
• Experience managing food costs, stock control and kitchen operations
• Sound understanding of food safety regulations and HACCP principles
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
• A hands-on approach with exceptional attention to detail
• The ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple events simultaneously
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
