Headquartered in South Australia, Southern Launch operates two of the nation's leading commercial spaceports, the Koonibba Test Range and the Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex. Providing orbital and suborbital launch, hypersonic flight, re-entries from space and range services, for commercial, civil and defence customers.

Through regulator-proven, vertically integrated mission services, Southern Launch's unique infrastructure enables direct ascent trajectories to a wide range of orbital inclination. While more than 47,000 square kilometres of secure, remote operating areas support advanced testing and recovery operations.

About the role

The Infrastructure Project Managers will lead the planning and delivery of civil, structural, building, utilities and other physical infrastructure projects supporting Southern Launch’s operational facilities and future development.

Reporting to the General Manager – Infrastructure, you will manage projects from approved scope and design coordination through procurement, construction, commissioning, handover and closeout. You will work closely with engineering teams, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to deliver infrastructure that meets operational requirements, technical standards, safety obligations and approved project objectives.

These positions offer the opportunity to manage diverse infrastructure projects in a growing technical and operational environment, balancing competing priorities while maintaining strong control of schedule, cost, scope, quality and delivery risk.

Responsibilities
  • Manage infrastructure projects from initiation and scope definition through planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and final handover.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts and delivery milestones aligned with approved requirements.
  • Coordinate designers, engineering consultants, contractors, fabricators and suppliers to ensure timely and effective project delivery.
  • Manage procurement activities, tender evaluations, contracts, purchase orders and supplier performance in accordance with business requirements.
  • Monitor project progress against schedule, cost, scope and quality objectives, identifying emerging issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks, dependencies, constraints and opportunities throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Coordinate design reviews and construction activities to ensure infrastructure is fit for purpose, constructible, compliant and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Manage interfaces between civil, structural, building services, utilities, access, security and other infrastructure work packages.
  • Work closely with engineering and operational stakeholders to coordinate enabling works, equipment installation, commissioning and site readiness.
  • Oversee contractor performance, construction quality, site coordination, safety requirements, inspections and the resolution of defects.
  • Maintain accurate project records, progress reporting, cost tracking, change registers and governance documentation.
  • Coordinate commissioning, practical completion, defects management and the transition of completed infrastructure into operations, including as-built drawings, asset records, warranties and compliance documentation.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, civil engineering, structural engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure, construction, building services or multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Experience coordinating design consultants, contractors, procurement activities and construction delivery.
  • Demonstrated capability in project scheduling, budget management, cost forecasting, risk management and change control.
  • Understanding of construction quality, work health and safety, commissioning, compliance and project handover requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder management, written communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Preferred skills and experience
  • Experience delivering infrastructure across remote, regional or operationally complex sites.
  • Familiarity with civil works, structural steel, buildings, utilities, electrical services, communications infrastructure or industrial facilities.
  • Experience managing concurrent projects or multiple infrastructure work packages within a broader development program.
  • Project management qualifications such as PRINCE2, PMP, AIPM certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with construction contracts, tender evaluation, commercial negotiations and contractor performance management.
  • Familiarity with project scheduling and cost management tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 or equivalent.
  • Experience with commissioning, asset handover, defects management and the establishment of maintenance requirements.
  • Experience working in aerospace, defence, energy, mining, industrial facilities or other technically complex operating environments.
