Job summary

The Yarram & District Health Service is seeking an Infection Control Nurse to minimise infection risk and maintain a safe environment for patients, residents and staff. Responsibilities include education, data collection and reporting, audits and outbreak management.

Mandatory qualifications include current RN registration and a Graduate Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control (or progression). The role emphasises leadership, regulatory compliance and continuous quality improvement

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current registration.
• Graduate Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control (or working towards) or equivalent.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of general, clinical and environmental microbiology.
• Demonstrated understanding of epidemiology, data collection and presentation of information.
• Demonstrated leadership and relevant organisational and administrative skills.
• An understanding of the principles of sterilisation, disinfection and sanitation within a healthcare facility.

Responsibilities

• Promote infection prevention and control across the facility and ensure legislative compliance.
• Conduct education, training and competency assessments for staff.
• Collect and report data (e.g., VICNISS, hand hygiene) per Department of Health.
• Conduct compliance audits and provide reports.
• Review products and devices for regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate staff health/immunisation program and maintain records.
• Promote hand hygiene and manage outbreaks with senior staff.
• Identify infection clusters via patient/resident records and reports.
• Ensure transmission-based precautions are followed.
