Job summary

The Yarram and District Health Service (YDHS) is seeking an Infection Control Nurse to minimise infection risk across patients, residents, and staff, while maintaining a safe environment for holistic care. The role involves leading infection prevention activities, data collection, and reporting in line with health standards.

Key responsibilities include audits, policy adherence, staff education, and outbreak management support.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current registration.
• Graduate Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control (or working towards) or equivalent.
• Knowledge of general, clinical and environmental microbiology.
• Understanding epidemiology, data collection and presentation of information.
• Leadership and organisational/administrative skills.
• Understanding sterilisation, disinfection and sanitation in a healthcare facility.
• Pre and post HIV & HepC test counselling.
• Accredited nurse immuniser.
• Understanding contemporary infection control practice and health care trends.
• Ability to solve problems and manage time effectively.
• Commitment to professional development and quality improvement.

Responsibilities

• Ensure clients, their families, visitors and colleagues are treated with respect and dignity.
• Listen to and collaborate with clients to understand their personal experiences to provide flexible care.
• Support clients to understand and learn about their health.
• Involve clients and their advocates in healthcare decisions.
• Explain treatment options using plain language.
• Respect healthcare decisions made by clients.
