Job summary

The Salvation Army in Canberra is seeking a culturally safe Central Intake Officer to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients experiencing homelessness and financial hardship. Based in Belconnen, this full-time, permanent identified role works with ACCOs and service providers to coordinate intake, referrals and short-term support, while upholding self-determination and cultural safety.

Applicants must be Indigenous and have a Diploma in Community Services or related field, plus

Qualifications

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity required (identified position).
• Diploma in Community Services, Social Work or Aboriginal Studies or related field.
• Experience supporting Indigenous communities and complex client needs.
• Strong communication, advocacy and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe intake, assessment, referrals and short-term support.
• Advocate and coordinate housing, health and financial support services.
• Engage with ACCOs, Elders and service providers to coordinate care.
• Promote self-determination and cultural safety in practice.
• Contribute to supervision and professional development in line with values.
