Job summary

The Salvation Army Australia is recruiting for a culturally strong Aboriginal identified intake role in Canberra. Based at FIRST Canberra Central Intake Service, you will provide culturally safe intake, assessment and short-term support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples facing homelessness and related challenges.

You will work with ACCOs and service providers to coordinate support, uphold self-determination and equitable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity is required.
• Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Aboriginal Studies or related field, or demonstrable experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, financial hardship, family violence or complex needs.
• Strong cultural knowledge and commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed and person-centred practice.
• Excellent communication, advocacy and collaboration skills; able to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe intake, assessment, referrals, advocacy and short-term support.
• Connect clients with housing, health, financial and family support services.
• Build trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders and families.
• Coordinate with ACCOs, government agencies and service providers to support clients.
• Promote cultural safety, self-determination and equitable outcomes.
• Participate in supervision and professional development aligned with TSA values.
