Job summary

McKinnon Secondary College is seeking an education support class staff member to assist in delivering programs for students with disabilities under teacher supervision. You will contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment and support planning and assessment activities.

The role involves coordinating support tasks, providing routine care and working closely with teachers and parents to support student outcomes. A valid qualification in related area is desirable.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member in a school setting.
• Understanding the needs of students with disabilities across the school.
• Ability to communicate with teachers, parents and students.
• Ability to take direction and work with or without supervision.
• Commitment to promoting a safe and supportive school environment.

Responsibilities

• Work under guidance of Inclusive Education Manager and class teachers.
• Support teachers in delivering programs to students with disabilities.
• Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.
• Assist with communication between students and teachers.
• Assist students individually or in groups in learning areas.
• Observe students and inform teachers to keep them on task.
• Participate in planning and preparation with teachers.
• Monitor and evaluate programs and student involvement.
• Attend meetings to review a student’s program.
• Implement activities supporting individual student needs.
• Prepare basic curriculum support resources as requested.
• Collaborate with parents, teachers, students and Learning Support team.
