Job summary

McKinnon Secondary College in Melbourne is seeking an Education Support Class employee to assist learning programs for students with disabilities under supervision. The role supports teachers and works across campus with duties described in the selection criteria and responsibilities.

Hours are 8:30am to 3:15pm across four days; appointment subject to pre-employment checks and department conditions.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member in a school setting.
• Demonstrated understanding of the needs of students with disabilities across the school.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including teachers, parents and students.
• Demonstrated ability to take direction, to work with or without supervision, both in and out of the classroom.
• Ability to promote a safe and supportive school environment.

Responsibilities

• Work under the guidance of the Inclusive Education Manager and class teachers and provide them with student feedback as required.
• Support teachers in the delivery of education programs to students with disabilities and impairments to ensure that these students have access to and participate safely in school activities.
• Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.
• Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly the interpretation of instructions.
• Assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas.
• Observe students and draw the attention of the teacher to them where necessary to keep the student on task.
• Participate in planning and preparation with teachers as required.
• Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of programs and evaluation of individual student involvement and achievement.
• Attend meetings to review a student's program.
• Implement activities and learning methods that will support the individual needs of the students.
• Prepare basic curriculum support resources as requested by the teacher.
• Work cooperatively with parents, teachers, students and members of the Learning Support team.
