Job summary

Pathology Queensland is seeking a Scientist to join the Microbiology Pathology team in Rockhampton to provide an effective pathology service to clients of Central Queensland.

You will perform diagnostic testing, result validation, plate reading and Gram staining, and support SARS-CoV-2 and respiratory virus testing, while developing and maintaining QA standards and training staff in the Microbiology/MDU laboratory.

Qualifications

• Experience in diagnostic microbiology and MDU workflows.
• Knowledge of plate reading and Gram stain.
• Familiarity with SARS-CoV-2 and respiratory virus testing.
• Understanding of quality systems (NATA/ISO/TGA).
• Ability to train staff and support continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Participate in diagnostic testing and result validation.
• Perform plate reading, Gram stain and specimen processing.
• Support SARS-CoV-2 and respiratory virus testing.
• Develop, maintain and implement QA standards.
• Provide guidance and training to staff.
