Job summary

Queensland Health's Pathology Queensland Toowoomba Laboratory is seeking a Scientist to join the team in Toowoomba. The role covers Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Transfusion Medicine, Molecular and Microbiology, delivering high-quality, cost-effective pathology services to clients.

You will perform routine and complex testing following accredited protocols, apply scientific judgement, ensure results meet NATA accreditation standards, and contribute to a supportive, multi-skilled laboratory

• Routine and complex testing of samples and related duties, following well established accredited protocols and standards within all areas of the Toowoomba Laboratory.
• With demonstrated experience, or as experience builds, apply increasingly independent scientific judgement to more complex problems and decision making, under the scientific supervision or professional guidance of more senior staff.
• Deliver quality results to clients ensuring all aspects of a NATA accredited laboratory are adhered to.
• Actively participate in the team in a professional manner, treating clients and co-workers with respect and courtesy.

Job description

Clinical Support Queensland are excited to welcome applications for a Scientist to join the Pathology team in Toowoomba! Clinical Support Queensland (CSQ) brings together a range of specialist services that underpin safe, high quality health care across the state. This includes diagnostic and forensic pathology, public and environmental health testing, and key clinical and system support functions including biomedical technology and supply chain services.

Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies. PQ offers laboratory services in the disciplines of anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, haematology, immunology, microbiology and genomics. PQ also provides expert analysis, scientific testing and advice to maintain and improve our public and environmental health, and to support the coronial system in Queensland.

About the role:

As a Scientist, you will conduct testing in the disciplines of Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Transfusion Medicine, Molecular and Microbiology of the Toowoomba Laboratory ensuring the provision of a high-quality, cost-effective pathology service to clients as part of the Pathology Queensland Toowoomba Laboratory Group.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Routine and complex testing of samples and related duties, following well established accredited protocols and standards within all areas of the Toowoomba Laboratory.
• With demonstrated experience, or as experience builds, apply increasingly independent scientific judgement to more complex problems and decision making, under the scientific supervision or professional guidance of more senior staff.
• Deliver quality results to clients ensuring all aspects of a NATA accredited laboratory are adhered to.

• Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.
