Job summary

NEXTDC is seeking a Data Centre Technician to support Hyperscale Facility Management in daily data centre operations, delivering high-quality electrical and mechanical maintenance with emphasis on safety, uptime and customer service. You will work in a 24/7 environment to ensure critical infrastructure remains reliable.

Role focuses on risk management, installation of customer infrastructure, and proactive performance monitoring using BMS platforms.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ experience in a data centre or colocation environment (supporting ~2.5MW+ IT load).
• Australian Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain security clearance.
• Recognised trade qualifications in Electrical or related trade; transferable skills welcomed.
• Proven ability to mentor and support junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage risks across OH&S, security, and critical facility systems within NEXTDC risk profile.
• Apply NEXTDC Risk Management Framework to identify, analyse and mitigate risks; feed insights to Engineering.
• Ensure best-practice installation of customer infrastructure, including power monitoring and rack security.
• Monitor system performance via BMS; fault-find to minimise MTTR.
• Support data hall monitoring (temp, humidity, alarms, power) with Facility Management.
• Follow frameworks, policies, and procedures for safe and compliant operations.
• Promote training to ensure OH&S compliance and operational standards.
• Maintain knowledge of critical systems to act as technical reference.
• Assist with customer equipment handling, deliveries and assembly as required.
• Produce operational reports with recommendations to improve performance.
• Participate in team activities and ongoing professional development.
• Engage in regular development discussions aligned with company competency frameworks.
• Participate in rotating on-call roster to support 24/7 operations.
