Job summary

REA Group is seeking a Staff Security Engineer (Detection and Response) to own detection engineering and automate security workflows across our environment in Australia. You’ll shape standards, lead cross‑team initiatives and partner with Product, Platform and Engineering to boost threat detection and response capabilities.

You'll work in a security team that monitors signals, investigates alerts, and leads incident response, with the freedom to influence architecture, tooling and testing.

Qualifications

• Define detection engineering architectures, patterns and standards across multiple platforms
• Strong understanding of cloud and application architectures, logging and monitoring
• Proficiency with log analysis, scripting and query languages for security events
• Configure and manage data pipelines and observability tooling
• Deep understanding of EDR, SIEM, CNAPP, SOAR and identity platforms
• Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK and attacker techniques
• Experience with detection-as-code, IaC and CI/CD in security tooling

Responsibilities

• Identify and lead cross-team initiatives that strengthen detection and response
• Configure and operate the detection platform and its data flows, including log ingestion and alert enrichment
• Define detection patterns and validate high‑fidelity detections and correlation logic
• Build automated pipelines, infrastructure, tests and quality gates for detections
• Analyze security events and logs to identify malicious activity and threat hunting
• Mentor and share knowledge through reviews, pairing and internal forums
