Job summary

Norwest Recruitment is recruiting for a Safety Manager role in Blacktown, Sydney. You will be embedded in a growing commercial construction business, mentored by an experienced Safety Manager, and work across site and office to drive safe project delivery.

You will review WHS/HSEQ systems, support tenders and live projects, and provide practical safety guidance on site. The role offers a hands-on environment with opportunities to shape safety practices across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of HSEQ experience in commercial building and construction.
• Strong commercial construction experience.
• Cert IV in WHS minimum.
• White Card and Driver's Licence are required.

Responsibilities

• Work a 40/60 split between site and office, mostly on site.
• Review, improve and modernise WHS/HSEQ systems and documentation.
• Manage internal safety systems and keep things moving.
• Support tenders and live commercial projects.
• Deliver practical safety advice, training and toolbox talks.
• Identify gaps and actually helping fix them.
• Work with the Safety Manager on continuous improvement.
• Be the go-to person for practical safety advice.

Blacktown | $130,000 + Superannuation | Full Time

This isn't your typical "update the SWMS, tick the boxes and disappear" safety role.

You'll be working alongside a highly experienced Safety Manager who will genuinely mentor you, while you become a key part of a young, energetic and growing second-generation commercial construction business delivering some seriously impressive projects across Sydney.

The team all get together for social events, laughs, and the owners are hands-on and genuinely passionate about their people and Safety!

What you'll actually be doing:

No two days will look the same...

• Working a 40/60 split between site and office - mostly on site
• Working alongside site teams, contractors and project managers
• Reviewing, improving and modernising WHS/HSEQ systems and documentation
• Managing internal safety systems and keeping things moving
• Supporting tenders and live commercial projects
• Delivering practical safety advice, training and toolbox talks
• Identifying gaps and actually helping fix them
• Working with the Safety Manager on continuous improvement
• Being the person people come to when they need good, practical safety advice

Who are we looking for?

This is where we're pretty specific.

You need 3+ years of HSEQ experience in commercial building and construction.

We are NOT looking for someone coming from:

• Residential Building
• Aged Care
• Medical
• Manufacturing
• General Industry environments

You need to understand construction sites, contractors, projects, documentation and the realities of getting work done safely.

You’ll also need:

• Cert IV in WHS minimum
• Strong commercial construction experience
• White Card
• Driver's Licence
• Confidence dealing with everyone from a Site Supervisor to a Director
• A practical, solutions-focused approach
