Job summary

Norwest Recruitment is seeking a Safety Advisor to work on Sydney projects with a mentor Safety Manager. The role combines site and office duties in a growing second-generation commercial builder.

You’ll provide practical safety advice, drive WHS improvements, and support tenders and live projects. Ideal candidates have 3+ years HSEQ experience in commercial construction, a Cert IV in WHS, White Card and a valid Driver’s Licence.

Qualifications

• This role requires 3+ years HSEQ experience in commercial building and construction.
• A practical safety mindset with ability to deliver toolbox talks and on-site coaching.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety leadership alongside site teams and project managers.
• Review, improve and modernise WHS/HSEQ systems and documentation.
• Deliver toolbox talks, training and practical safety advice.
• Identify gaps and assist with continuous safety improvements on site.

This isn’t your typical “update the SWMS, tick the boxes and disappear” safety role.

You’ll be working alongside a highly experienced Safety Manager who will genuinely mentor you, while you become a key part of a young, energetic and growing second-generation commercial construction business delivering some seriously impressive projects across Sydney.

The team all get together for social events, laughs, and the owners are hands-on and genuinely passionate about their people!

Job Description

What you’ll actually be doing:

No two days will look the same...

• Working a 40/60 split between site and office — mostly on site
• Working alongside site teams, contractors and project managers
• Reviewing, improving and modernising WHS/HSEQ systems and documentation
• Managing internal safety systems and keeping things moving
• Supporting tenders and live commercial projects
• Delivering practical safety advice, training and toolbox talks
• Identifying gaps and actually helping fix them
• Working with the Safety Manager on continuous improvement
• Being the person people come to when they need good, practical safety advice

Who are we looking for?

This is where we’re pretty specific.

You need 3+ years of HSEQ experience in Commercial Building & Construction.

We are NOT looking for someone coming from:

• Residential Building
• Aged Care
• Medical
• Manufacturing
• General Industry environments

You need to understand construction sites, contractors, projects, documentation and the realities of getting work done safely.

You’ll also need:

• Cert IV in WHS minimum
• Strong commercial construction experience
• White Card
• Driver’s Licence
• Confidence dealing with everyone from a Site Supervisor to a Director
• A practical, solutions-focused approach
