Job summary

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support the safe delivery of major power infrastructure projects across Australia. This field-based role involves site verification, risk management and incident support, reporting to the HSE Manager.

You will work with project teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure critical controls are implemented and compliance obligations are met across all project stages, with authority to stop work if required.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in WHS or higher is required.
• White Card current and valid for construction sites.
• Experience in construction, utilities, power or major projects.
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and high risk work activities.
• Experience supporting permit to work systems and risk management.
• Field inspections and assurance activities experience.
• Experience investigating incidents and corrective actions.
• Stakeholder engagement with operational teams and subcontractors.
• High attention to detail, audit readiness and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline health, safety and environmental assurance on site.
• Support risk management, incident response and compliance monitoring.
• Engage workforce and subcontractors to ensure critical controls are in place.
• Collaborate with project teams to stop work if critical risks are not controlled.

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to join our Transmission and Substation team.

The Opportunity

This field based role plays a critical part in supporting the safe delivery of major power infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will provide frontline health, safety and environmental assurance through site verification activities, risk management, incident support, compliance monitoring and workforce engagement.

You will work closely with project teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure critical controls are implemented effectively, risks are managed and compliance obligations are met across all stages of project delivery. This role has the authority to stop work where critical risk controls are absent or ineffective and provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of complex transmission and substation projects.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or higher
• Current Construction Industry White Card
• Demonstrated experience within construction, utilities, power, infrastructure or major project environments
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and high risk work activities
• Experience supporting permit to work systems, risk management processes and critical control verification
• Proven capability conducting field inspections, workplace observations and assurance activities
• Experience investigating incidents and supporting corrective action management
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to positively influence operational teams and subcontractors
• High attention to detail and a focus on compliance, audit readiness and documentation
• Experience using HSE management systems and training platforms
• The confidence to intervene, challenge unsafe practices and elevate critical risks when required.
