Job summary

Downer Energy & Utilities seeks an experienced Project Engineer to join our Power Systems team, supporting the delivery of complex substation and transmission projects across Australia. You will provide engineering support, planning, scheduling and technical expertise across all phases of project delivery, while working closely with site teams, subcontractors and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering qualification is required.
• Minimum 4 years of project engineering experience in infrastructure/utilities.
• Experience managing subcontractors and project delivery teams.

Responsibilities

• Support safe execution of projects with risk assessments and safety leadership.
• Coordinate site activities including design reviews, construction methodology and scope management.
• Manage subcontractors and self-perform crews to meet scope, budget and schedule.
• Prepare and review construction methodologies, lift plans and temporary works.
• Monitor schedules, perform critical path analysis and support forecasting.
• Drive project quality through quality management systems and procurement compliance.
• Support commercial management including change management and claims.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to developing engineers.

The Opportunity

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Power Systems team supporting the delivery of complex substation and transmission projects across Australia.

Reporting to the Program Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. You will provide engineering support, construction planning, schedule management and technical expertise across all phases of project delivery, while working closely with site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineering professional looking to further develop their career within a leading infrastructure services provider.
Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the safe execution of projects through active participation in Zero Harm initiatives, risk assessments, SWMS development and safety leadership activities.
• Coordinating site activities including design reviews, construction methodology, scope management, program delivery and stakeholder engagement.
• Managing subcontractor and self perform crews to achieve project objectives within agreed scope, budget and schedule requirements.
• Preparing and reviewing construction methodologies, lift plans, temporary works and constructability assessments.
• Monitoring project schedules, conducting critical path analysis and supporting project forecasting and reporting activities.
• Driving project quality outcomes through implementation of quality management systems, conformance activities and procurement compliance.
• Supporting commercial management activities including change management, variations, extensions of time, claims and procurement processes.
• Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders while providing mentoring and technical guidance to developing engineers.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role you will bring:

• Bachelor of Engineering qualification.
• Minimum 4 years of project engineering experience within infrastructure, utilities, transmission, substations, construction or related industries.
• Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors and project delivery teams.
• Strong understanding of project scheduling, forecasting, cost management and reporting.
• Experience delivering change management processes and driving quality outcomes across projects.
• Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to analyse complex technical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Commitment to safety, quality and environmental excellence.
• Transmission industry experience will be highly regarded.
