Job summary

1 Hotel Melbourne is seeking a proactive Handyperson to join our opening team, ensuring the brand-new hotel stays in immaculate condition through a range of minor maintenance tasks. You will help uphold high standards of comfort, safety, and sustainability for guests and staff alike.

The role requires competence in basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks, plus a strong sense of time management and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification is preferred but not essential.
• White Card and/or Working at Heights certification (desirable).
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office and basic digital tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs across guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house (including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and furniture fixes).
• Respond to maintenance requests swiftly, ensuring minimal disruption to guests.
• Support preventative maintenance under the guidance of the Director of Engineering.
• Inspect areas regularly to identify issues, report hazards, and escalate major repairs.
• Assist with refurbishments, room turnovers, and event setup.
• Keep tools and equipment safe, clean, and functional.
• Follow all WHS and hotel safety/security procedures.
• Communicate effectively with teams across departments.
• Provide professional, discreet customer service at all times.

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Handyperson to join our opening team. In this vital role, you’ll help ensure our brand-new hotel is kept in immaculate condition through a range of minor maintenance and repair tasks. You’ll play a key role in upholding the high standards of comfort, safety, and sustainability our guests expect.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience in a maintenance/handyperson role (ideally in hospitality or commercial buildings)
• Please note: This is a 24/7 operations, a level of flexibility and weekend work will be required to be succesful in this role.
• Competency in basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks
• Strong problem-solving, time management, and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with a commitment to safety and guest privacy
• Good physical fitness and manual dexterity
