The Role:

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Head of Managed Services owns and delivers the Managed Services strategy, aligned with SBS Technology and broader business priorities.

The role is accountable for the performance, resilience and continuity of SBS’s on-air and online services, supported by complex broadcast infrastructure. It leads a multidisciplinary team of subject matter experts and contractors and has end-to-end responsibility for the performance of major managed-service partners, including contractual obligations, service levels and key performance indicators (KPIs).

The role ensures the reliable, 24/7 playout and national transmission of SBS television and radio services and leads the response to significant service incidents. As a member of the SBS Technology Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Managed Services also contributes to broader technology strategy and priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the performance of SBS’s playout, transmission and distribution services, ensuring reliability, operational excellence and strong outcomes for the business and audiences.
  • Govern enterprise vendor partnerships to improve performance, innovation, commercial value and strategic alignment with respect to broadcast, transmission and other playout activities.
  • Drive technology transformation and continuous improvement to strengthen efficiency, resilience and future capability.
  • Lead the performance, resilience and continuous improvement of SBS’s broadcast, playout, transmission, distribution, digital and supporting infrastructure services, including considering service delivery in a vastly changing media environment. Lead, develop and inspire multidisciplinary teams, building capability and fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture across teams and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to business continuity, financial management, risk and long-term planning in support of SBS’s organisational objectives.
  • Own the performance, people, suppliers, contracts, budget, risk and service outcomes of SBS’s Managed Services environment, ensuring reliable, resilient and cost-effective delivery across all managed services.
About you:
You will bring
  • Senior leadership and influencing experience in a high-consequence, audience-facing or mission-critical service environment, specifically across broadcast, media, telecommunications, streaming or similar critical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience leading significant operational incidents and communicating clearly with executives, business stakeholders and external suppliers under pressure.
  • Extensive experience managing large-scale, technically and operationally complex outsourced or managed-service arrangements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading significant projects, service transitions and organisational change.
  • Demonstrated experience building trusted relationships and influencing across executives, internal teams and external suppliers to achieve shared outcomes in a complex, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong expertise in commercial negotiation, contract lifecycle management, supplier governance, service-level management and dispute resolution.
  • Experience providing insight into service performance, operational risk and incident information and translating it into clear executive-level assurance.
  • Expertise in resilience, business continuity and disaster recovery within an always-on operating environment.
