Job summary

Norma's Deli in Manly, NSW is seeking a Head Barista to lead our coffee program and barista team. You’ll own the quality and consistency of every cup, keep the station running smoothly, and train staff who share a passion for coffee.

If you have 3+ years of high-volume cafe experience, strong espresso knowledge, and enjoy leading by example, we’d love to hear from you. The role offers a competitive A$70k–A$73k salary and a permanent full-time position.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years’ barista experience in a busy, quality-focused café or venue.
• Experience leading or training a barista team.
• Strong knowledge of espresso extraction, dialling in, milk texturing and latte art.
• NSW Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Certificate is highly regarded.
• Ownership of the coffee program in a busy, much-loved venue.

Responsibilities

• Produce high-quality coffee and drinks to Norma’s Deli standards.
• Dial in espresso daily and adjust for consistent taste.
• Set and maintain drink recipes, milk standards and presentation.
• Keep service fast and efficient during peak periods without compromising quality.
• Give guests friendly service and coffee knowledge and recommendations.
• Work with FOH and kitchen teams to ensure orders go out on time.
• Lead, support and motivate the barista team on every shift.
• Train new and existing baristas in extraction, milk texturing, latte art and workflow.
• Give regular feedback and uphold quality and service standards.
• Help the managers with barista rostering and onboarding.
• Order and manage coffee, milk, alternative milks and bar supplies.
• Rotate stock and keep wastage to a minimum.
• Build a strong relationship with our coffee roaster and suppliers.
• Clean and maintain the espresso machines and grinders, and report faults promptly.
• Keep the coffee station clean, organised and well presented.

About the role

Norma’s Deli is looking for a passionate, experienced Head Barista to lead our coffee program and barista team. You’ll own the quality and consistency of every cup, keep the coffee station running smoothly through busy service, and train a team that cares about coffee as much as you do. Working closely with our front-of-house and kitchen teams, you’ll help give every guest who walks through our doors a memorable experience. What you’ll be doing

Coffee quality and service

Stock and equipment

• Ordering and managing coffee, milk, alternative milks and bar supplies
• Rotating stock and keeping wastage to a minimum
• Building a strong relationship with our coffee roaster and suppliers
• Cleaning and maintaining the espresso machine and grinders, and reporting faults promptly
• Keeping the coffee station clean, organised and well presented
