Job summary

Pounds + Ounces is a vibrant cafe located within the Royal Hobart Hospital, known for exceptional specialty coffee and fresh, wholesome food made in-house. We are seeking a Head Barista to lead our coffee offering, set standards, and guide the team in a fast-paced service environment.

You will supervise daily operations, dial in grinders, and ensure top-quality espresso and beverages for thousands of customers each week.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a senior barista or Head Barista.
• Strong knowledge of specialty coffee and espresso calibration.
• Ability to lead and develop a team in a busy environment.

We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Head Barista to take the lead on our coffee offering. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who takes pride in coffee quality, enjoys leading by example and thrives in a fast-paced café environment.

This is a casual position with full-time hours available.

About the role:

Lead and maintain exceptional coffee standards and quality control across the café

Take ownership of daily coffee operations and consistency

Prepare outstanding espresso and specialty beverages using our La Marzocco PB ABR

Set and maintain coffee recipes, dial in grinders and ensure equipment is properly maintained

Support, guide and motivate the wider team to deliver consistently great coffee

Provide warm, welcoming customer service and lead by example during busy service periods

What we're looking for:

Proven experience as a senior barista or Head Barista

Strong knowledge of specialty coffee, espresso extraction and coffee calibration

Confidence leading coffee operations in a high-volume environment

Excellent latte art and milk texturing skills

Strong communication skills and the ability to support and develop other team members

A genuine passion for coffee, people and great hospitality
