Job description

About Acusensus

Acusensus pioneers intelligent road safety enforcement solutions deployed by governments across Australia, the US, the UK, and New Zealand. Our mission is straightforward: changing behaviours, saving lives. We do it through advanced AI and hardware technology, including fixed-location, trailer-based, and vehicle-based enforcement solutions that capture risky driver behaviour. Founded in 2018, we've grown into a global team that is passionate about our mission to make communities safer.

About the role

You'll be the Hardware Engineer behind Forsite Connected Safety, taking full ownership of the electronic systems that make our road worker safety products work in the field. From circuit design and PCB layout through to prototype testing, compliance certification, and manufacturing handoff, this is an end-to-end engineering role with real responsibility. You'll sit within the Road Worker Safety team and work closely with software, mechanical, and manufacturing colleagues to deliver integrated, field-ready products.

A heads up: this role does require occasional national travel on short notice, which comes with the territory of supporting field-ready hardware.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and test complex electronic circuits and systems from concept through to full production
  • Create and maintain detailed schematics and PCB layouts using Altium, KiCAD, Fusion 360, or similar tools
  • Build, test, and debug hardware prototypes and pre-production units, including designing and building test jigs
  • Ensure all hardware designs comply with relevant international standards, including EMC, Safety, Radio Spectrum, and IEC
  • Support the transition from design to manufacturing by addressing production issues and optimising designs for cost and manufacturability
  • Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product integration
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation across design specifications, workbook and calculation reports, and manufacturing instructions

About you

You're an experienced electronics engineer with a methodical approach to design and a track record of taking hardware from concept to production.

You'll bring:

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering, or at least 5 years of equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Strong experience with analogue, digital, and SMPS circuit design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium, KiCAD, Fusion 360, or similar.
  • Experience with embedded systems design, including microcontrollers and associated peripheral circuits.
  • Solid knowledge of hardware validation, testing methodologies, and hands-on debugging.
  • Familiarity with international compliance standards including IEC, EN, FCC, and CE.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in automotive applications and 12/24VDC systems.
  • Familiarity with C/C++ for firmware development or hardware interaction.
  • Exposure to production environments and manufacturing processes.

Why Acusensus?

Full ownership of the hardware lifecycle: You'll take products from initial circuit design and PCB layout all the way through to prototype validation, compliance certification, and manufacturing handoff. No handholding, no siloed work — you own the outcome.

Work that protects people on the job: Forsite Connected Safety is Acusensus' road worker safety platform, used to protect the people who maintain our roads. The hardware you build goes directly into the field, where it matters.

A genuinely collaborative engineering team: You'll work closely with software, mechanical, and manufacturing colleagues across the full product lifecycle. If you do your best work when teams are tight-knit and technically sharp, this is the environment for it.
