Job description

Lead with technical expertise. Solve complex problems. Help make roads safer.

Are you a hands-on technical specialist who loves fault-finding, mechanical systems and solving problems? Ready to take the lead on innovative technology that makes a genuine difference to road safety?

Join Acusensus as their Service Technician Lead, combining your mechanical expertise with advanced camera, radar and AI-powered technology to keep our roadside systems operating safely, reliably and efficiently.

About Acusensus:

Acusensus is an Australian technology success story with a global presence across Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

They develop world-leading technology using advanced imaging and artificial intelligence to help reduce road fatalities and injuries caused by distracted and speeding drivers. Their technology brings together mechanical systems, radar, cameras, software, communications and cloud-based platforms to deliver innovative road safety solutions.

About the role:

As Service Technician Lead, you'll play a key role in maintaining the mechanical reliability, technical performance and operational readiness of our road safety technology fleet. You'll be the go-to technical expert for the mechanical aspects of their fleet, combining hands-on maintenance and repairs with advanced sensor and camera deployments. From diagnosing diesel generator faults and maintaining trailer systems to troubleshooting electrical components and supporting integrated technology platforms, you'll help ensure our equipment performs when it matters most. You'll also provide technical guidance to Service Technicians, coordinate service priorities, support complex fault investigations and work closely with engineering, field operations and other teams to resolve issues and improve equipment reliability.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic, diesel fitter, plant mechanic or technically minded field service specialist looking to apply their skills in a unique, technology-driven environment.

Your role:
  • Perform scheduled servicing, diagnostics and repairs on small diesel engines and generators, including Kubota and Yanmar systems, as well as hybrid battery systems.
  • Maintain trailer roadworthiness, including chassis, wheel bearings, hubs, electric brakes, suspension and towing couplings.
  • Service and repair electromechanical and hydraulic telescopic masts, actuators and solar charging systems.
  • Undertake minor fabrication, metalwork, equipment modifications and hardware retrofits to improve durability in demanding roadside environments.
  • Conduct inspections and functional testing to ensure assets are safe, reliable and ready for deployment.
Technical troubleshooting and service delivery
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical and electromechanical faults across fixed and mobile platforms.
  • Support the integration of mechanical equipment with radar, cameras, sensors, operating systems and communications technology.
  • Connect laptops to equipment to perform diagnostics, update firmware and support technical investigations.
  • Provide remote troubleshooting assistance to field technicians, subcontractors and other personnel.
  • Assess incoming service requests, prioritise critical issues and coordinate timely resolutions to minimise equipment downtime.
Technical leadership and continuous improvement
  • Act as a technical point of reference for mechanical systems, maintenance practices and fault diagnosis.
  • Provide practical guidance and mentoring to technicians, helping build capability and improve first-time fault resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, field operations, Help Desk and other teams to investigate recurring faults and identify root causes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, equipment reliability, serviceability and fleet performance.
  • Support equipment upgrades, modifications, testing and the introduction of new technologies.
Documentation and quality
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service tickets, inspection reports and repair documentation.
  • Assess equipment and installation functionality and document findings, corrective actions and recommendations.
  • Maintain and improve technical knowledge bases, fleet management systems and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ensure work meets established quality, safety and operational requirements.
About you:

You're a practical, technically minded professional who enjoys getting to the root of a problem. You combine strong mechanical skills with a methodical approach to diagnostics, a commitment to quality and the ability to support others.

You'll ideally bring:
  • Around five years' experience in a relevant mechanical, maintenance or field service role, with strong fault-finding and repair capabilities.
  • A qualification in diesel fitting, light or heavy vehicle mechanics, plant mechanics, mechanical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of small diesel engines, including fuel systems, cooling systems, servicing and starting faults.
  • Experience with 12V/24V DC electrical systems, batteries, alternators, solar regulators and wiring looms.
  • Practical experience maintaining trailers, bearings, brakes, hubs, hydraulic systems and mechanical actuators.
  • Confidence using hand tools, power tools and basic fabrication techniques.
  • The ability to diagnose technical issues systematically and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and the patience to guide others through troubleshooting, including remotely.
  • Excellent organisation, documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • A collaborative, customer-focused approach and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Experience with camera systems, radar, communications equipment, integrated hardware and software platforms or technology-enabled field services will be highly regarded. Basic networking knowledge, such as checking IP addresses and connecting network switches, or familiarity with Linux/Unix command-line environments, is advantageous but not essential. Training will be provided.

At Acusensus you'll have the opportunity to:
  • Work with innovative road safety technology combining mechanical systems, sensors, cameras and AI.
  • Take ownership of complex technical challenges and influence equipment reliability.
  • Share your expertise and help develop the capability of other technicians.
  • Collaborate with engineering, software and field operations specialists.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in a growing Australian technology business with global reach.
  • Be part of a purpose-driven team that values collaboration, integrity, care and delivery.

An exceptional opportunity awaits.
