Job summary

The EQ Hotel Pty Ltd in Perth is seeking reliable Handypersons and Maintenance Technicians to join our pre-opening Engineering team. You will help ensure guest rooms, public areas and back‑of‑house facilities are maintained to a high standard.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will resolve maintenance issues promptly, support pre‑opening readiness and coordinate access with contractors while maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

Handyperson / Maintenance Technician, Pre-Opening Luxury Hotel

The EQ Hotel – Perth, WA

The EQ Hotel is seeking reliable and skilled Handypersons and Maintenance Technicians to join our pre-opening Engineering team.

These are practical, hands-on roles supporting the presentation, safety and day-to-day operation of our hotel. You will help ensure that guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house facilities are maintained to a high standard.

We welcome applications from candidates with general hotel maintenance experience, as well as more technically skilled candidates with experience in building services, plant and equipment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office and the Engineering team to resolve maintenance issues efficiently and minimise any impact on the guest experience.

You will be involved in pre-opening readiness, room and public‑area inspections, defect rectification, repairs and preventative maintenance. The level of duties and remuneration will reflect your experience, technical capability and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel team members.
• Carry out general repairs and maintenance, including basic carpentry, painting, patching, minor plumbing repairs and basic maintenance tasks that do not require a trade licence.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance across guest rooms, public areas and back‑of‑house spaces.
• Conduct regular inspections and report defects, hazards or maintenance concerns.
• Work closely with Housekeeping to ensure rooms are maintained and returned to service promptly.
• Record completed works, faults and follow‑up actions in the hotel maintenance system.
• Assist with pre‑opening inspections, testing, defect rectification and operational‑readiness tasks.
• Coordinate access and work requirements with contractors and specialist service providers.
• Maintain tools, maintenance stores, workshop areas and supplies in a clean and organised condition.
• Assist with the purchase and receipt of maintenance materials and supplies as required.
• Follow all WHS procedures, use PPE correctly and report unsafe conditions immediately.
• Support other Engineering projects and hotel operational requirements as needed.

About You

• Previous experience as a Handyperson, Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Worker or similar role, ideally in a hotel, commercial building or large facility.
• Practical knowledge of general building maintenance and repairs.
• Experience with painting, patching, basic carpentry, plumbing repairs and general building works.
• For Maintenance Technician roles, technical building‑services, trade or plant‑equipment experience will be highly regarded.
• Ability to identify issues, prioritise tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable using maintenance systems, work orders and maintenance schedules.
• A current driver’s licence is essential.
• Physically fit and comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces where required.
• Well presented, reliable and safety focused, with a professional and guest‑focused approach.
• Available to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as required.
