Job description

Grain Brokers Australia is a growing national grain marketing and advisory business, and we are looking for the right person to join our East Coast team based in Melbourne.

We work with grain growers across Australia, helping them make better commercial decisions around their grain business. That means understanding the grower's operation, building a strategy around their objectives and combining market intelligence, advice, technology and execution to help deliver better outcomes.

As we continue to grow and build the GBA business, we see the East Coast as a key part of that growth moving forward.

We are looking for someone who wants to perform, develop their career and play a genuine role in building our East Coast business.

This isn't a role where you sit behind a desk and wait for the phone to ring. We're looking for someone who can build relationships, create opportunities, develop new business and then deliver a level of service that builds long-term partnerships with our clients.

You'll also be part of an experienced and ambitious Australian team, with the market intelligence, buyer relationships, technology and broader support of GBA behind you.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to build your own client portfolio, develop your commercial capability and play a genuine role in GBA's growth across the East Coast.

The Role

You'll be part of our East Coast team, based in Melbourne, spending plenty of time in the field meeting growers, developing relationships and building your own portfolio.

You'll be expected to get on farm, pick up the phone, open doors and confidently engage with growers about their business.

Building the relationship is the first step. The real value comes from what you deliver from there.

You'll work closely with growers throughout the year to understand their operation, production, grain position and commercial objectives and help them develop and execute a structured grain marketing strategy.

Your role will include:
  • Developing new grower relationships and new business opportunities.
  • Building and managing a strong pipeline of prospective clients.
  • Spending time on farm understanding growers and their businesses.
  • Clearly communicating where GBA can add value and confidently progressing commercial opportunities.
  • Building and managing a strong portfolio of clients.
  • Developing long-term partnerships with growers.
  • Helping growers develop and implement structured grain marketing strategies.
  • Turning market information into practical commercial recommendations.
  • Managing grain positions, contracts, stocks and execution.
  • Identifying opportunities across buyers, commodities and regions.
  • Using GBA's technology, market intelligence and broader team to deliver a high level of service.
  • Taking ownership of the growth and performance of your portfolio.
  • Contributing to the performance and growth of the wider East Coast team.
Who We're Looking For

Previous grain marketing experience is not essential.

We're looking for someone who is commercially minded, good with people and has the drive to build relationships, develop new business and perform.

You may currently work in grain, agribusiness, agricultural sales, banking, farm inputs, machinery or another commercially focused agricultural role.

We want someone who:
  • Enjoys meeting people, building relationships and creating new opportunities.
  • Is comfortable picking up the phone, getting on farm and developing new business.
  • Is commercially minded and motivated by results.
  • Takes ownership and follows opportunities through.
  • Thrives in a team environment and wants the people around them to succeed.
  • Is prepared to be challenged, coached and continually improve.
  • Is comfortable working towards clear activity, growth and performance targets.
  • Can ask good questions, understand a client's business and make confident recommendations.
  • Is organised and disciplined in managing a sales pipeline and client portfolio.
  • Takes pride in how they work and how they represent the business.
  • Wants to build a career and grow with GBA.

Previous grain industry experience would be highly regarded, but it isn't everything. For the right person, we can develop the grain marketing knowledge and technical capability required for the role.

What we are looking for is someone with the drive to create opportunities, the commercial ability to turn those opportunities into business and the discipline to build strong, long-term client relationships.

Why GBA?

GBA is at an important stage of growth nationally, with significant opportunity across the East Coast.

We're building a business that goes beyond traditional transactional grain broking. Our focus is on understanding our clients' businesses and helping them make better commercial decisions throughout the year, combining experienced people, strong market intelligence, technology, advice and execution.

We're also building a team with high standards. We want people who share information, challenge each other, enjoy success and take pride in what we're building together.

You'll be supported by experienced people across the business while being given the opportunity to develop your own relationships, build your own portfolio and take increasing responsibility as you grow.

For the right person, there is genuine opportunity to build a career with GBA as the broader business continues to expand.

In return, you'll receive:
  • A performance-based incentive scheme that rewards strong performance and business growth.
  • Phone, laptop and tools of trade.
  • Ongoing sales, commercial and grain marketing development.
  • Support from an experienced national grain team.
  • Strong market intelligence, technology and established industry relationships.
  • Genuine career progression as GBA continues to grow.

If you're commercially minded, enjoy working with growers, want to build business and like the idea of being part of a high-performing Australian team, we'd like to hear from you.
