Job summary

SMEC in North Sydney is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer to join the Rail & Metro team. The two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) accelerates your growth with hands-on project experience, mentoring, and structured learning across disciplines.

You'll contribute to major rail and metro infrastructure projects from day one, gaining exposure to design, analysis, site delivery and multidisciplinary collaboration, while building consulting skills.

Qualifications

• Motivated Civil Engineering graduate with problem-solving skills.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Willingness to learn across design tools and standards.

Responsibilities

• Support design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis under guidance.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to understand construction.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs.
• Learn industry standards, tools and best practices on the job.

The Role

We are seeking a recent Graduate Civil Engineer to join our Rail & Metro team in North Sydney.

Key responsibilities:

You’ll support the delivery of real infrastructure projects from day one — contributing to design, analysis and documentation while learning from experienced engineers and gaining exposure to site and project delivery.

• Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation


• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers


• Participate in site visits and inspections to develop an understanding of how designs are implemented on live projects


• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones


• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on‑the‑job experience

About You

You’re a motivated Civil Engineering graduate who enjoys problem‑solving, working in teams, and contributing to real‑world projects.

You will bring:

• A degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)


• Strong communication and teamwork skills


• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous)
