Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist design, configuration, and deployment of OT and industrial control systems.

Key Responsibilities

During the initial phase of the graduate program, you will be embedded within Alliance Automation’s Internal IT team, developing a strong foundation in enterprise technology, cybersecurity, networking, cloud platforms, and digital workplace solutions. As your skills and experience grow, you will progressively transition into Operational Technology (OT) consulting and engineering activities, supporting the delivery of industrial automation and cybersecurity projects for some of Australia’s leading industrial organisations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the design, configuration, and deployment of OT and industrial control systems, including SCADA, DCS, PLC, RTU, historian, and industrial networking solutions.
  • Support the development, testing, commissioning, and optimisation of automation and control systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Gain hands‑on experience with enterprise IT infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and IT service delivery as part of your structured development pathway.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including functional specifications, network architectures, configuration standards, test procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Participate in site‑based activities such as commissioning, troubleshooting, system audits, and technology assessments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, cybersecurity, and IT teams to deliver innovative and fit‑for‑purpose solutions for clients.
  • Assist with the implementation of cybersecurity controls and best practices aligned with recognised industry frameworks, including IEC 62443 and the Essential Eight.
  • Develop an understanding of IT/OT convergence and how digital technologies enable safer, smarter, and more efficient industrial operations.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Alliance Automation’s Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) standards and values.
  • Actively participate in mentoring, training, and professional development opportunities to accelerate your growth into a trusted Engineering Consultant.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Strong academic foundation in engineering, technology, systems, or computing principles.
  • Demonstrated interest in industrial automation, operational technology, networking, cybersecurity, or digital transformation.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts, operating systems, and system integration principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage professionally with stakeholders.
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence or ability to obtain one.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations when required.
Desirable Attributes
  • Internship, vacation work, university projects, or practical experience involving automation, software development, networking, robotics, cybersecurity, or industrial systems.
  • Exposure to SCADA platforms, PLC programming, industrial communications, cloud technologies, or data analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, or Profinet.
  • Experience with programming or development environments such as .NET, C#, Python, VB.NET, SQL, or Visual Studio.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals and risk management principles.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a passion for emerging technologies.
