Job description

Australian Retirement Trust - Brisbane QLD

Take hold of a monster opportunity and join Australian Retirement Trust as our General Manager - Line 2 Risk Transformation. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, you'll lead the design, delivery and embedment of an enterprise-wide transformation agenda that strengthens independent risk oversight, modernises our risk management architecture and supports sustainable regulatory compliance.

Description

We're all about helping our members make the most of their money. And while they go after their goals, you can too.

As our General Manager - Line 2 Risk Transformation, you'll provide enterprise leadership for the design, delivery and embedment of Australian Retirement Trust's Line 2 risk transformation agenda.

As a key member of the Risk and Compliance Leadership Team, you'll lead the Chief Risk Officer-sponsored components of our Board-approved Risk Transformation Plan. You'll translate our transformation objectives into an integrated future-state Line 2 operating model, strengthening independent oversight and helping us build sustainable risk management practices.

Your influence will extend across the three lines of accountability. You'll set a clear direction for Line 2 transformation, provide independent review and constructive challenge, and advise the Chief Risk Officer on priorities, investment, delivery trade-offs, readiness and material transformation risks.

This is an opportunity to shape enterprise-wide change across frameworks, governance, methodologies, processes, data and technology while building stronger risk capability and accountability across Australian Retirement Trust.

This role is a 12-month max-term opportunity and is based in Brisbane.

Responsibilities

Day to day, you'll:

  • Set the strategic direction and integrated delivery roadmap for Line 2 risk transformation, aligned with our strategy, risk appetite, Target Operating Model and Board-approved objectives.
  • Lead delivery of the Chief Risk Officer-sponsored components of the Board-approved Risk Transformation Plan.
  • Establish clear priorities, dependencies, decision rights, ownership and accountability across the transformation portfolio.
  • Lead the redesign and embedment of Line 2 frameworks, policies, methodologies, governance and oversight practices.
  • Translate regulatory expectations, transformation commitments and better practice into practical future-state requirements and uplift priorities.
  • Provide independent Line 2 review and constructive challenge across future-state designs, implementation plans, risk treatments and readiness assessments.
  • Oversee governance, reporting and performance disciplines that monitor delivery, risk reduction, benefits realisation and sustainable embedment.
  • Advise the Chief Risk Officer on transformation priorities, investment choices, delivery trade-offs, emerging risks and material issues.
  • Represent Line 2 in executive, program and design governance forums, ensuring its independence and oversight requirements are reflected in future-state design.
  • Influence across organisational boundaries to resolve competing priorities, establish alignment and maintain momentum.
  • Lead change, adoption and targeted capability building that strengthens risk culture, accountability and the sustained use of new risk practices.
  • Build trusted partnerships across Line 1 and Line 2 while maintaining clear accountability for risk ownership and independent oversight.
Qualifications

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:

  • You bring extensive senior leadership experience across enterprise risk management, risk transformation, governance or a related discipline within a complex financial services organisation.
  • Your background includes successfully leading large-scale, multi-year risk transformation and embedding sustainable changes across operating models, frameworks, processes, data, technology and organisational capability.
  • You'll bring a deep understanding of the three lines model, Line 2 independence, risk appetite, control environments, assurance and regulatory expectations.
  • You're experienced in providing authoritative advice, constructive challenge and clear recommendations to Boards, executives and senior governance forums.
  • You apply strong strategic, commercial and systems thinking, balancing regulatory, risk, member, delivery and broader business considerations.
  • Your experience includes delivering transformation in a regulated superannuation, banking, insurance or wealth environment.
  • You'll be confident influencing across organisational boundaries, navigating ambiguity and resolving competing priorities.
  • You're an accomplished people leader who builds senior teams, develops specialist capability and creates a culture of inclusion, accountability and high performance.
  • You demonstrate integrity, independence of thought, sound judgement and well-developed analytical and decision-making capability.
  • Your qualifications include a relevant tertiary degree in risk, finance, business, law, governance or a related discipline, or equivalent senior professional experience.
  • You'll ideally hold postgraduate qualifications or professional certification in risk management, governance, project management or change management.
  • You're experienced in engaging with regulators, independent reviewers, internal audit or external assurance providers.
  • You bring contemporary knowledge of risk technology, data, analytics and automation as enablers of effective Line 2 oversight.
