Job description

About our client

Our client is a leading Australian healthcare services organisation with a strong reputation for clinical quality, innovation and patient-centred care. As part of its growth strategy, it is establishing a fully integrated clinical service, and is seeking an experienced health leader to take the helm.

The opportunity

This newly created role has three clear horizons. Initially, you will lead the new service through establishment and early operations, protecting patient safety, service continuity and the confidence of partners, clinicians and staff. From there, you will run the service as a genuinely integrated part of the partner organisation, delivering consistently high standards of care, responsiveness and performance. Over time, you will grow the partnership as the site develops, and build a scalable model the organisation can extend to new partners.

You will work hand in hand with a Clinical Director. You will own operations, partnership, people, performance and commercial outcomes, while the Clinical Director leads clinical governance and the medical workforce.

Key responsibilities
Establishment and early operations
  • Lead operational readiness and launch, including workforce, onboarding and credentialing, equipment, systems and safety processes
  • Lead on-site stabilisation through the first 90 days and beyond
  • Lead a respectful, structured onboarding of new and transitioning staff, with a strong focus on engagement and retention
Clinical operations
  • Run a responsive 24/7 service supporting emergency, critical care, inpatient, theatre and outpatient settings
  • Establish a performance-driven operating rhythm covering demand and capacity planning, rostering and escalation
  • Oversee referral pathways, bookings and patient experience
  • Maintain robust business continuity planning
Partnership and stakeholder engagement
  • Act as the senior accountable leader to the executive, leading regular governance and performance reporting
  • Build trusted relationships with executives, clinical leaders and visiting specialists
  • Partner on joint communications and patient-facing initiatives
Quality and safety
  • Embed clinical governance and quality systems aligned with governance and the NSQHS Standards
  • Ensure accreditation and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure incidents, complaints and open disclosure are managed in a timely, closed-loop way
  • Lead continuous improvement, including patient and referrer experience
People and culture
  • Lead, develop and retain a high-performing multidisciplinary workforce and leadership team
  • Build one team and one culture, consistent with the organisation’s values
  • Own workforce planning, education and succession
  • Model a safe, respectful and psychologically safe workplace
Commercial, growth and digital
  • Own the P&L for the service
  • Shape service development in line with campus growth, and support the organisation’s broader partnership strategy
  • Use data and dashboards to manage performance, utilisation and productivity
  • Champion the safe, clinically governed use of digital and workflow technology
  • Own risk management and work health and safety across the service
About you
  • Significant senior operational leadership experience in a hospital or complex, clinical service
  • A proven track record establishing new services, leading transitions or delivering large-scale change
  • Experience managing senior hospital and clinician relationships, and performance frameworks
  • Strong commercial acumen with full P&L accountability
  • A sound working knowledge of the NSQHS Standards and healthcare accreditation
  • Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams through change, including consultation processes
  • A collaborative, values-led leader who builds trust quickly and stays calm under pressure
  • Tertiary qualifications in health, business or management; postgraduate qualifications highly regarded
Why this role
  • A high-profile role with genuine scope to build something lasting
  • The backing of an established, well-resourced and growing organisation
  • A clear pathway to shape the organisation’s broader services strategy
