Job description

Lead the business. Build relationships. Drive growth.

Dreamtime Resorts is an established accommodation marketing and management company seeking an experienced, commercially minded General Manager to lead its team, oversee business operations, strengthen key stakeholder relationships and drive continued growth.

Operating within the accommodation and tourism industry, the business provides marketing, business development and commercial support services to a portfolio of 20+ established resorts along the Queensland coastline.

Behind the business is a close-knit, experienced team with a strong sense of camaraderie, a collaborative approach and a genuine passion for what they do. Our culture is built on mutual respect, trust, loyalty and long-standing relationships, both within the team and with our business partners. We're looking for a leader who values this culture and can build on it as the business continues to grow.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who thrives on taking ownership, developing strong business relationships and delivering measurable commercial results.

The Role

Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for the overall management, financial performance and strategic growth of the business.

You will lead the internal team, oversee key client and stakeholder relationships and ensure the consistent delivery of services across the accommodation portfolio.

The role requires a balance of strategic thinking, strong financial acumen, effective people management and a proactive, results-driven approach.

Key Responsibilities
Business Leadership & Strategy
  • Oversee day-to-day business operations and overall organisational performance.

  • Develop and implement business plans, strategic initiatives and growth strategies.

  • Review the existing operating model and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, collaboration and service delivery.

  • Establish clear business objectives and provide regular performance updates and strategic recommendations to the Board.

Financial & Commercial Management
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, financial forecasts and cashflow projections.

  • Monitor revenue, expenditure, profitability and financial performance.

  • Assess the commercial contribution of individual properties and service agreements, identifying opportunities to improve profitability and manage costs.

  • Prepare and present management reports and ensure financial accountability.

Client & Stakeholder Relationships
  • Oversee relationships with accommodation partners, on-site managers and key stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and consistent service delivery.

  • Monitor client performance and identify opportunities to improve accommodation revenue and commercial outcomes.

  • Strengthen client engagement, satisfaction and retention by demonstrating measurable value.

  • Participate in Board and Partnership meetings, providing operational updates and commercial recommendations.

Business Development & Portfolio Growth
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities, accommodation properties and commercial partnerships.

  • Build relationships with property owners, operators, developers and industry contacts.

  • Lead business development activities, proposals and commercial negotiations.

  • Oversee the onboarding of new clients and properties.

  • Identify opportunities to expand services, leverage the existing portfolio and achieve sustainable revenue growth.

Team Leadership & Operations
  • Lead, mentor and manage the team to achieve business objectives.

  • Oversee recruitment, performance management, staff development and workplace culture.

  • Establish clear goals, responsibilities and performance expectations.

  • Drive operational efficiency, collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Foster a positive, supportive and engaging workplace culture where people feel valued, motivated and connected.

  • Preserve and strengthen the close-knit team environment, balancing business growth and accountability with the personality and values that make the business successful.

Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, business regulations and contractual obligations.

  • Oversee applicable business licences, registrations, insurance and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain appropriate business policies, procedures, risk management and reporting systems.

  • Liaise with accountants, legal advisers and external service providers as required.

About You

We are looking for a confident, capable leader with a strong commercial mindset, excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to grow and manage a successful business.

Just as importantly, we're looking for someone who is a great fit for our people and our business. Someone who is approachable, down-to-earth and genuinely enjoys working with people. You'll understand the importance of maintaining a positive team culture, building trust and leading by example, while bringing the drive and commercial focus needed to take the business forward.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in a General Manager, Operations Manager, Commercial Manager or similar senior leadership role, with demonstrated success in managing and growing a business.

  • Strong financial management capabilities, including budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss management, cashflow projections and financial reporting.

  • Demonstrated success in business development, commercial growth, contract negotiations and stakeholder relationship management.

  • Experience leading and developing teams, managing performance and fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong, lasting relationships with staff, clients and business partners.

  • Strong organisational skills, sound commercial judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities and drive operational efficiencies.

  • A proactive, approachable and hands-on leadership style, with the confidence to take ownership, make decisions and lead by example.

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, implement improvements and drive sustainable business growth.

  • High standards of professionalism, integrity and accountability.

  • A current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to accommodation properties and meet with business partners as required.

Highly regarded, but not essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Commerce, Finance, Marketing, Hospitality Management or a related discipline. Substantial relevant experience will be considered equally valuable.

  • Experience in accommodation management, management rights, tourism distribution or multi-property accommodation operations, particularly an understanding of the marketing, commercial and operational needs of accommodation partners.

  • Familiarity with systems such as REI Cloud, Levart, Xero/MYOB or similar platforms.

  • Relevant professional development or executive leadership training.

Above all, we're looking for a commercially astute leader who is equally passionate about people and performance. Someone who can bring fresh ideas, drive positive change and grow the business while respecting and strengthening the relationships, values and culture that have contributed to its success.

What's on Offer?
  • Senior leadership opportunity – Take ownership of an established business and help shape its future direction.

  • Autonomy and influence – Work directly with the board and play a key role in strategic and commercial decisions.

  • Growth opportunities – Lead business development initiatives and the expansion of an established accommodation portfolio.

  • Variety and challenge – Enjoy a diverse role combining strategic planning, financial management, stakeholder relationships and people leadership.

  • Established industry presence – Work with a network of accommodation owners, operators and business partners.

  • Competitive remuneration – Attractive starting salary package (incl. company vehicle), with staged remuneration increases after 6 and 12 months, subject to satisfactory performance and achieving agreed commercial and operational objectives.

If you are a commercially driven leader who enjoys building relationships, developing teams and growing businesses, we'd love to hear from you.

Starting date for the role is negotiable, up to early 2027.

All applications will be treated confidentially.
