Job summary

Prima PMI in Melbourne is seeking a Freight Optimisation Manager to lead and refine our multimillion-dollar freight strategy, optimizing spend, carrier partnerships and service levels.

You will direct the Logistics Coordinator and Analyst, run RFPs, develop shipping rules, analyse freight data and collaborate across teams to deliver cost savings and improved customer outcomes.

A strong Excel capability, deep market knowledge of freight providers, and proven negotiation skills are essential.

This is a key role within the business, responsible for optimising our multimillion-dollar freight spend, managing strategic carrier partnerships and identifying innovative freight solutions that improve both customer experience and commercial outcomes.

No two days are the same, but your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and supporting the Logistics Coordinator and Logistics Analyst, driving continuous improvement across our freight function.
• Building strong relationships with our carrier partners, conducting regular performance reviews, negotiating commercial outcomes and holding carriers accountable to agreed service levels.
• Managing Request for Proposal (RFP) processes to ensure we continue to secure the best value, service and capability across our carrier network.
• Identifying innovative freight solutions and service offerings that create value for our customers and support business growth.
• Developing and refining shipping rules and freight strategies to maximise efficiency and optimise freight costs.
• Auditing products and shipping specifications to ensure packaging, materials and shipping methods align with operational and commercial objectives.
• Analysing freight data and identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve service levels and enhance operational performance.
• Partnering with stakeholders across the business to deliver strategic freight initiatives and support new product launches.

We're looking for someone who:

• Is proficient in Excel and confident analysing complex data to make strategic, commercially driven decisions.
• Has a strong understanding of the freight, logistics and carrier landscape, including market trends and service offerings.
• Possesses exceptional communication, influencing and negotiation skills, with the confidence to build strong partnerships and lead challenging commercial discussions.
• Is passionate about continuous improvement and enjoys challenging existing processes to deliver better outcomes.
• Thinks strategically and understands how freight can create both operational efficiencies and competitive advantage.
• Thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working cross-functionally to achieve shared goals.

• Existing relationships within the freight or carrier industry.
• Experience managing freight spend, shipment costing or transport analytics.
• Experience leading carrier procurement, contract negotiations or supplier management.
• Previous account or commercial management experience.
