Job summary

Coates Cambridge is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Technician to maintain and service a diverse hire fleet. Based at the Cambridge branch, you’ll keep equipment safe, reliable and ready for customers in a busy workshop environment.

You’ll perform preventative maintenance, diagnose faults, and keep detailed service records while collaborating with operations and customer-facing teams to ensure high availability and satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Relevant trade qualifications (e.g. Mechanical, Diesel, Plant Mechanic).
• Experience with petrol and diesel engines.
• Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Basic electrical fault finding.
• Current MR or HR driver’s licence.
• Forklift and EWP tickets are beneficial.
• Safety-first mindset and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, servicing and overhauls on a wide range of hire equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently and safely.
• Complete and maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Work proactively to minimise operational downtime.
• Ensure all work complies with Coates safety and quality standards.
• Collaborate with operations, service and customer-facing teams to support equipment availability and customer satisfaction.

Here’s how you’ll be a part of our team

- Above award hourly rates + overtime penalty rates

- Monday to Friday roster with 7.6 hours worked between 7:00am and 5:00pm

- Permanent full-time position

Based at the Coates Cambridge branch, you’ll play a key role in keeping our hire fleet safe, reliable and ready for customers. This is a hands‑on mechanical role suited to someone who enjoys variety, teamwork and taking pride in maintaining high‑performing equipment.

What you’ll be doing day to day

What you’ll bring to the role

- Relevant trade qualifications ( [e.g. Mechanical, Diesel, Plant Mechanic] )

- Experience with:

- Petrol and diesel engines

- Hydraulics and pneumatics

- Basic electrical fault finding

- Current Driver’s Licence (MR or HR preferred)

- Forklift and EWP tickets (beneficial, not essential)

- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic and preventative maintenance skills

- A safety‑first mindset and a commitment to quality work
