Job summary

Based at the Coates Cambridge branch, you’ll play a key role in keeping our hire fleet safe, reliable and ready for customers. This is a hands‑on mechanical role suited to someone who enjoys variety, teamwork and taking pride in maintaining high-performing equipment.

Performing preventative maintenance and repairs, you’ll diagnose faults, record workmanship and collaborate with operations to minimise downtime while upholding Coates safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Mechanical, Diesel or Plant Mechanic.
• Experience with petrol and diesel engines.
• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Basic electrical fault finding.
• Current MR or HR driver's licence.
• Forklift and EWP tickets preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, servicing and overhauls on a wide range of hire equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently and safely.
• Complete and maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Work proactively to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all work complies with safety and quality standards.
• Collaborate with operations and service teams to support equipment availability.

• Monday to Friday roster with 7.6 hours worked between 7:00am and 5:00pm
• Permanent full-time position

What You’ll Bring To The Role

• Relevant trade qualifications ( [e.g. Mechanical, Diesel, Plant Mechanic] )
• Experience with:
  • Petrol and diesel engines
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Basic electrical fault finding
• Current Driver’s Licence (MR or HR preferred)
• Forklift and EWP tickets (beneficial, not essential)
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic and preventative maintenance skills
• A safety-first mindset and a commitment to quality work
